Yeah, the gameplay is similar in some ways. Splinter Cell isn't so much about keeping track of guard routes and using disguises, though. It's more about being a ninja and sticking to the shadows, climbing through air ducts, up pipes, and just stealthily taking out everyone. IIRC, in Hitman taking out everyone in a level was pretty hard if you wanted to be stealthy about it.
