Anyone else looking forward to SC:Conviction? I loved the first three games, but thought Double Agent was rubbish. I don't know what to think of this one yet, but I'm hoping it doesn't suck ass.

Depends on the reviews for the PC version. Double Agent was a bust for me because the port to the PC was done SO poorly. Of Conviction is done right, then I might buy it for PC.

I've learned to never look forward to a ubisoft game until it has been released and reviewed.

If any company consistently fails to meet expectations with rushed ill conceived releases, it's ubisoft. That said, I loved the first 3 splinter cell's and double agent crashed to much to play for me (and the controls were retarded, no attempt to make it function like a PC game). So I'm playing wait and see.

I'm expecting it to be just as bad as Double Agent. I would love to be wrong though. Splinter Cell 1-3 were some of my most favorite games.

Yea, I don't worry about DRM because I simply plan to buy it for the 360 if it has the same shitty ubisoft drm scheme. I'd prefer the PC, but I'm not going to deal with the drm.

Outside of it being a Ubi game so game DRM, no.

Ubisoft came out and said they did nothing at all and it is a straight up port.

Watch some game play videos. The game practically plays itself. Do one stealth kill then you can mark up execution kills and just hit one button and Sam goes and kills everyone you marked in the room automatically. Big lettering pops up everywhere to tell you where to go and what to do. When an enemy spots you and you run away when the enemy loses where you went there is a white outline of yourself for the last known position for the enemy.

Here is a video that highlights it all easily, but any game play video will show you the same crap.

This video doesn't show the text.

Another video explaining the elements of the game:

the words only appear to tell you what your objectives are and to continue the story.

I was really REALLY looking forward to this but with the new Ubi DRM in place I won't be buying it until it goes on sale for $5 on Steam or Direct2Drive. Pissed that they delayed the release date from January to April just so they could add this awful new DRM.

I'm a very story-motivated gamer, so the changes in gameplay (mark-and-execute, etc.) don't bother me much, they just change the feel of the experience to more like an action movie that you direct, from the "look how good I am I can beat this on Insanity difficulty without taking a scratch!" feel that it seems like is all the hardcore community wants these days. Last Known Position actually seems like a cool new feature that we haven't seen before - and Mark/Execute is something that might let a PC-centric old guy like me who can't hit anything in an FPS with thumbsticks actually play through the thing on the 360. Hard to argue with measures taken in an effort to broaden the audience rather than narrow it.

I got the same impression from the previews. The first three SC games were outstanding (and even DA would have been pretty good if it wasn't horribly buggy), but it seems that this game will be nothing like them. Ubisoft probably decided that the stealth gameplay of the series was too hard for casual gamers.

Contains Ubi's always connected DRM so it's a pass for me. I've purchased every Splinter Cell game on the PC up until this point, but refuse to support this nonsense. Maybe once a crack is out for it i'll think about buying it.

Actually, I waited for about a year to purchase Chaos Theory since at the time Ubisoft was using Starforce protection and I didn't want to touch it until a crack was out (which took about a year). Paid like $5 for it at that point. lol You think they would have learned their lesson back then..

Ugh every discussion in this forum eventually devolves into a whinge about DRM. We get it, you don't like the DRM, thanks. Comments on the actual game are more useful in a thread like this.

Well, the last two Ubisoft games had such horrible DRM many people can't even play the game. (See Settlers 7 and and AC2). I'm ok with some DRM (cd check, onetime activation even) but killing your game if the internet burps (or their server burps) is unacceptable. It should be considered seriously.

That said, I just reinstalled double agent. I forgot how much that game sucked. I'm going to wait for the bargin bin I think.

It's all part of the total package of the software product you're buying. If there's a thread in Hardware about the performance of the new Core 2 Ocho CPUs run, would you want commenters to *only* talk about how fast their clocks are, or would it be ok to talk about how much heat they generate, too?

There's already 50,000,000 threads for discussing DRM.

I'm not into the SC games so much that I'd buy it on release, but if it's decent I'd sure pick it up on a sale.

As for the DRM, the always connected thing isn't great but wouldn't affect me. People always talk about their internet connection going down, but jesus this isn't 2002 where my cable connection shits out a lot. And there are other reasons given but most are crap.

lol is that 'stupid' game play mode?

I like in the end of the video how he takes out 3 guy in 2 seconds. That's not realistic or in this case even fun.

Then you should make note of that in your post. DRM is part of what you pay for when you buy the game, so discussion of it is going to be assumed unless otherwise noted. You asked if anyone was looking forward to the title and you got some honest opinions. Like those us who enjoy the series but refuse to buy a product with draconian DRM.

You assume your Internet connection is the weak link. Most of the time it is their server burping.

I played the Xbox360 demo... It seems to me like they're going for a more action oriented game. Every time you knock a guy out or kill him, large, bright white 'claws' come across your screen and create this loud noise. The bright text on all of the walls showing your objectives (while innovative) are annoying. They gave you a ton of tools (EMP grenades, EMP bombs, frag grenades, sticky cameras, etc). It almost felt like I could run around as if it were an first person shooter. You cant drag bodies ether so...

I loved the hell out of the first 3... I don't know if I have high hopes for this one.
