splicing ethernet wire

I found the control box to all the ethernet hard wiring in my house but the input is not a socket instead it seems that the main cable is taken apart and each individual wire is atached to its own connection

The box is made by on-q home if that helps

i am planning to use the hard wiring to connect my home to my router and really would appreciate if anyone can direct me to a website or provide picture of how to split my ethernet cable to match the connection in the box

uh that's not what i mean't

in the box the main wire is split into the 8 individual wires and attached into an array of connections

sounds like you might have an old fashioned homemade hub


take a picture, it's worth a thousand words. When you say "the wire is split into 8 individual wires" what wire? Eh, all ethernet "wires" are really 8 wires

It sounds like it's punched down to a 66 block. That would not be a data connection, and the cabling is probably not sufficient for speeds above 10 meg (if that)l

That is probably the method chosen to permit multiple phone jacks to be attached to the same phone line.

If the above is true, it would be a bad thing to put data through (aside from raw DSL).

well i just moved into this new home and i haven't unpacked my camera yet so i'll do my best to find a picture on the web

mine is just the part that is wierd the white strips that are color coded but there are eight connections which i think is for CAT5 not regular phone lines

so check it out
