Interesting...

No, you don't have it straight.

The theory of evolution is not a fact. If anyone says so, they don't know what they're talking about. The theory of evoltion is supported by facts, but they do not prove the theory in its entirety. It IS provable somehow (timetravel or something).

String theory is also a theory. It is supported by the fact that the equations it is based on offer solutions which very nicely explain the fundamental forces and particles, and make predictions supported by other well tested theories. It is provable as well (or disprovable if you like), but not with current technology.

My contention as well. It's hard to say what is and isn't impossible based upon our very limited knowledge of the world around us. We think we know so much but the reality is we know nothing.

I love how you don't know what a theory is.

A theory is a hypothesis strongly supported by evidence.

Hypothesis = educated guess
Theory = well tested and supported hypothesis
Law = Theory to the next level 🙂

define evidence now, obviously i'm not gonna survive the next round of Darwinism

I'm sure you can use dictionary.com

awww cmon...you know you want to....

My thoughts exactly.

Does Einsteins theory of Relativity ring a bell?

Uh, no. It's not. General Relativity has tested accurate with every single experiment ever performed to test it. There has not been one single instance of a contradiction. It's practically on the verge of being called a law (actually, it should be, as it extends newton's laws of gravity).

Theory is a much stronger word than people give it credit to be. It's not just some random guess out of thin air.

Doesn't matter, I don't need any evidence from current day "scientists" to support my faith.

I've got the Bible which has endured for at least 2,000 years....it's all the evidence I need.

Oh wait...please tell me you did mean that as a joke!!

You *can't* be serious about basing all evidence in an ancient book that's comprised of various stories from various cultures?!?!?

What are you talking about? General relativity is known to have direct conflicts with quantum theory, and is inaccurate in the areas quantum theory is accurate (atomic level). General relativity assumes a nonlinear universe and works at modeling on a large scale, but quantum theory states that the universe is linear and experiments support that view. A second problem exists in that there is no means to define local energy in general relativity.

These are some of the reasons that there is still a search for a unified field theory.

have you ever looked into the Bible and see how every book relates to another? It's not just a story here about how you should be good, and story there about how heaven is good, and another story there about how hell is bad. It's a very, very deep book with so many underlying references it'll make your head spin.

It's like the Matrix x 1000. 😉

Are you sure that it is unverifiable? As I understood it, superstring theorists believe that by the end of the decade there will be an identifiable deviation from Standard Model expectations at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva - if it occurs it would be strong evidence for the theory, if it doesn't then the theory as it currently stands would be shown false.

Hi!

My Hinduism is older than your Christianity. Therefore, by your logic, since it's endured for longer than your religion, it must be more true. My religion is the uber-matrix that your matrix was created in.

that is all

12 years of Catholic schooling including a Scripture course...I think I understand more than a superficial amount of the Bible.

whoa, talk about jumping to conclusions.

First off I never said I was Christian, you just assumed it. Seconldy, I never said that I'm a Christian only because it's the belief that has lasted the longest and it is the oldest.

You're right, I don't know what made me think you're christian... And second, I'm simply commenting on the "it's old therefore it must be true" statement you made

Please not the clause "with current technology". It is my understanding that until we have colliders with significantly higher energy we will not be able to probe into the realm of super string only predictions. When will these colliders be built?
