Spirited away and Princess Mononoke

haven't seen Mononoke but Spirited Away was great 😀

oh you gotta see it man. Its damn good. Better than Spirited away, much more mature.

I like it better, but its because Spirited Away is just so....odd. To be honest, I don't even know why I like it, but I do like Spirited Away. It just has some quality to it. I do enjoy Mononoke more. The story is more mature. Its not perfect. I don't know if its because of the translation or what, but there are some kinda messed up things with the story.

But yeah, when I was flipping through the channels and saw them on, I was like, huh? Checked the channel and then became even more perplexed. And to top it off it was the subbed japanese versions, not the translated ones (which are quite good really).

Hasn't Miyazaki (is that the correct name, for some reason I can't seem to remember if it is or not) done two films since then? Maybe its just one. I've been wanting to check out his other films, but haven't gotten around to it.

I really can't figure out what it is about his films that make them so good, but they are. I'm not a fan of anime at all, and yet his films are just amazing.

Showed with Japanese voice and english subs.

Caught part of Mononoke-hime last night and it was dubbed. Looks like they're playing two Miyazaki films per Thursday this month, and repeating them a few times. These films are getting PRIME TIME, playing from mid-afternoon until wee morning hours. I think all the ones available as dubbed are, while the rest are subbed. Regardless, great stuff.

Turner Classic Movies - Miyazaki

Yup, I recorded Spirited Away last night - I already have Mononoke on DVD.

Can't wait for the rest of them this month, though. I've seen only Nausicaa - besides Mononoke - in its original Japanese.

Yeah, the latest one is Howl's Moving Castle, based from the English novel.
I got to see in a theater last year in Japan. It was interesting to say the least, a lot like Spirited Away.
I think Mononoke is the best out of them all.

he also did KiKi's moving service, an anime series that was pretty good. Mononoke is still my favorite though. Stayed up till like 6 am watching it.

bah. Subbed is where its at. Most Japanese movies have TERRIBLE dubbing.

Mononoke is an exception mind you, the monk was voice by Billy Bob Thorton, and they had a bunch of other good voice actors but still. They always fvck with the script when its translated.

ya i agree. although there are exceptions like Steamboy (where the Brittish accent dubs were very appropriate. Actually, I liked the dub of steamboy over the japanese voices due to this), Princess Mononoke, and Cowboy Bebop.

I think it really depends on how you see it. If you see it dubbed, then you don't mind, but like evangelion, watching it dubbed is like tourture.

The only thing cool about PM was when he did his bow and arrow thang.

Other than that, kinda a snooze fest. With maybe a moral or 2 snuck in there for your learning pleasure.

Which shows your general age and maturity. Did you not pay attention to the story and theme at all?

Go back to watching DBZ.

just because he didn't like mononoke hime he is young and immature? maybe he didn't care for the story/theme? hah, anime elitists.

yeah, they're doing a whole Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli feature...I told my friend about it months ago and forgot about it until he reminded me it was on 😛

no, its because he said, 'The only part I liked was the part with the arrows.' That generally says that he just likes the action animes, and not ones with some actual story line.

That is what made me say that he's immature.

And what was that "moral?" If you think about it, neither the forest gods nor iron town residents were inherently evil, nor were they good.
