Spinrite 6.0 experience

I have been running SpinRite 6.0 on a corrupted hard drive in my wife's laptop for three days now, and it's just crawling. Out of 40gb, it's pretty much staying at 4% complete. It's moving along, not frozen or anything, but at this rate it would be years before it finishes, and no guarantee anything will be recoverable when it does. I'm running the program from a bootable CD.

Does anyone have any experience with this program? How long did it take you to complete drive recovery?

I've used it, and it was quicker than 3 days.

It sounds like it is looping.

Restart and try again. What sort of scan are you running?

I did restart it yesterday, and it picked right up where it left off. I'm running a level 2 data recovery scan. It is making progress, but it's microscopic progress : (

For example, when I left it Sunday evening, it was chewing on Cylinder 200, sector 48, head 254. Right now, it on Cylinder 201, sector 3, head 17. It's only gotten through 1.653 gb on a 40gb drive. I wouldn't even be attempting this for anyone other than my wife : )

Maybe this is whre the problem is, once it gets passed it it may be plain sailing.

well, that's what I've been hoping, but three straight days stuck at 4.13% plus a few decimal places, I'm thinking if the whole disk drive is that bad, this would take years : (
