people might recommend the WD because of a 5 year warranty over 3 for the Sammy, besides that it's simply blind nutt hugging. There's zero logical reason to recommend the WD outside of the Warranty. Samsung has been making HD's for ages, and it's not like they're some tiny hole in the wall company.
ANY HD from any maker can possible fail, with the exception of the old IBM Deathstars and the 7200.11s (which Seagate released a fix for) I laugh at people who say "[such and such brand] are by far the best HD's on the market and easily the most reliable. I know I've owned FOUR and never had a problem!"
I've had HD's from Connor to Quantum to WD to Maxtor to Segaate fail on me. Oddly enough the only HD brand that never crapped out on me was a IBM and it was one of the Deathstar models *knock on wood* I ran it for maybe 2 1/2 years without so much a problem - go figure lol
