You may call it being realistic (your justification) but it's actually called being a thief.
 
Pick up as much as you can, make sure the camera catches you handing in some of it, and not too much is poking out of your pockets at the time.

Need to watch The Magic Christian.
 
This is ATOT, it's not worth our time to stoop and pick up a few measly hundred dollars. Chump change!

But I suppose I could send out the chauffeur while I play with the supermodels . . . .
