Vodka?

I don't think you would really want to use anything else......

Edit: I've always been curious.. Can the average sized watermelon really take a fifth of vodka? They seem so waterlogged already. I've never tried it.

Vodka or Everclear. Anything else adds the taste to the melon and IMO, ruins it.

I don't know how Midori would work, or any of the other melon-flavored liquers.
(no not liquors...)

ANY booze works...but bourbon will make the melon taste like shit...(unless you really like bourbon)

I've spiked melons with tequila and Crown Royal before and they were dismal failures IMO. (they worked...you'd get a buzz from eating them, but they didn't taste great, and that's why you use a relatively tasteless liquor.

White rum should work well too. I agree that 24 hours is better IMO, it gives the booze lots of time to migrate into the tissues of the melon.
I read 33's link...we used to just cut the plug out of the end, stick the bottle in there, and let it drain over 24 hours instead of pouring in half a cup at a time.

I found a few things online (http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink7799.html) but I dont think its how we did it in the navy.

I recall we used a cooler and chunks of watermelon.
And maybe some ice.

By definition, there is no recipe. Just mix together everything you've got that might taste ok. If I can remember my four years of college, here are some of the variants:

Case of cheap beer, case of capri suns, handle of vodka, lots of ice.

Gallons of Hi-C, 50/50 with handles of vodka.

Handles of vodka, powdered gatorade.

Pretty much anything, as long as it involves cheap booze and some sort of flavor/coloring agent. If you use high end liquors and fresh mixers, it's then called punch and is also a waste of money. Make sure whatever you use comes in a plastic jug, Vodka must be no better than Skol.

As an aside, Skol vodka, despite coming in a plastic jug, has placed well in some blind taste tests, coming ahead of some premium brands costing 4x as much. It's value is unbeatable.

As a double-aside, if you take Skol and pass it through a Brita filter a few times, it's really, really smooth.

Eh, I used watermelon vodka in my watermelon.
It took like 3 days to get the vodka to drain into it (leave room for the air to escape) and by then it started sort of rotting the water melon. (not rotting, but it made it mushy)
It was ok on the outside, but the center was basically pure vodka.

The important thing is that the flavor/coloring agent must be fruity and cheap, if it's got a disgusting color so much the better. High-C, Kool-Aid, Hawaiian Punch or some other variety of cheap bug juice would be ideal and it's recommended to mix reds, oranges, greens and blues into one sickly looking concoction.
