I missed Orlando due to scheduling conflicts but if anybody wants to hook up for a cocktail or meet&greet let me know.

No stalkers allowed. However hotties are certainly welcome. :)

I'd love to go, but I can't make it. Unfortunately not enough of my job is serious networking, and our infastructure is really small and doesn't change too much.

Though I did convince them to pay for me to go to Comdex last year, and maybe CES this coming year. :)

Damn!

:p

I don't think I'm going anywhere this year. I still want to make it back to DefCon (I swear I'll make it through the registration day this year!), but I can't afford it/don't have time, and I don't want the company paying for me to go (I don't want to go into that comment ;)). Next year though, I'm going to make it to atleast one conference.

Post a report though, if anything cool comes up! I'm definitely interrested.

If anybody needs to convince their boss then simply say - "If we use cisco gear and you want to use it effectivity I need to attend this conference. There is never a larger collection of network professionals particularily those who work with cisco. Everyday there are two hour technical sessions covering basic switch troubleshooting to the the innerworkings of IPsec algorithyms and key management to global MPLS network design. You will have an almost immediate ROI if I attend only three of these sessions. But there are actually 4 days of class. My buddy spidey on some internet board told me I have to go and have a Jack and Coke with him and draw networks on napkins."

It really is a great conference. This will be my forth and I consider it a "must attend" for network professionals.

click here for the over 100 different tech sessions...http://www.cisco.com/networkers/nw03/session_catalog.pdf

My buddy just went to the on in FL. Says it was awesome, but his head hurt. Said the stuff on NAT ( i imagine pretty advanced stuff)was a pain in the ass.

Well I'm back. Lots of geek stuff and lots of Jack Daniels and Coke.

Biggest takes from the sessions I took:

QoS has really matured - marking at the edge using diffserv has really advanced. The tools availible at the WAN and VPN edge have also advanced to make use truly complete control on what app does what on a slow line (read...everything but a LAN.)
Cat6K is continually adding incredible features at wirespeed
Cisco is pushing voice big time - good or bad? It depends on where you look. I'm still in between.
Wireless is a big push - I still don't like it. I kept hearing "Wireless is a viable and cheaper option than a wired network". I don't buy it. Wireless in my mind (and from experience) is a big steaming slow hunk of crap.
Multicast is coming of age and lots of new features and design guidelines mean all you gurus should brush up on it...a lot has changed in the last 1-2 years.
DVDM and optical are (as predicted) making leaps and bounds squeezing every lambda out of a single fiber with the routing/switch power to boot.

So what happened to optical routing? :)
