Spiders on a Deck!

Lifer
we had this spider that I found one night when watching the skies for the Persieds a little over a week ago. it had been contructing a web overhead, between the upper platform and the pole of the umbrella. after awhile, it disappeared.
well, i found it. i walked out on the deck, and proceeded to close the door behind me.. and, what do I see? immediately to the left of the door is this:

spider1
spider2

second is merely a zoomed in (digital zoom) of my camera.
exuse the quality of the pics, I have either a film camera (want to use it so bad to get a macro shot of that thing), or this little 2mp digital P&S. I really need to get some film, I want a macro shot of that thing sooo bad.

and it turns out its of the orb weaver family, specifically a Cross Orb Weaver (for the cross pattern on its back).

edit: forgot to mention this thing is over 1.5" long from tip of hind legs to tip of front legs in the position it is in.
oh and its missing a leg.. something I got a laugh out of. 🙂

step on it, what are you waiting for?

isn't really step on-able.. its in the air 🙂

and i dont wanna kill it. my dad will probably wanna take it and move it someplace away from our deck... good for him, i dont want that thing getting preggers and releasing babies everywhere 😉
but i dont touch spiders. hell no. hate the damn things.

it's missing a leg... awww....

my house must do this to spiders.
a little while ago we had a daddy long leg-like spider (i know daddy long legs are insects), but it wasn't a harvestman either, which is weird. didn't know there was anything else with the leg-to-body ratio like the Harvestman.. but it was much smaller (an inch?), but only had 7 legs.
my house takes away the legs of spiders. lol
