Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago.

Damnit beat me to it.

Crazy news though.

I hope they keep Garfield though. I like him.

It's 100% because of how bad the last Spiderman movie turned out. Had it been good, Sony would never be doing this which is why they had already planned out their next installment of connected movies.

I definitely think this will be better for us, Marvel has yet to make a bad movie, everything has been at least decent.

I still think the second one was decent, but it did suffer quite a bit trying to ram the whole Green Goblin bit into it. I almost want to quote Honest Trailers about how they made the same major mistake that was done with the third Spiderman movie with the multiple villain mess.

1st and 2nd Spider-man are still some of the best Superhero flicks out there

Spidey 3 was such a rotten taint of a film though...so rotten, so taint. oh and then the british dude playing spiderman after that...so tainty. more tainty.

Don't forget Daredevil, Fantastic Four and the X-Men.

Unfortunately, Fox won't give up those properties because even pushing out crap they'll still make bank on them.

Sony is in a world of hurt right now financially all over their business portfolio. Disney/Marvel must have offered them a nice piece of the pie. Less financial backing from Sony plus the Marvel cinematic juggernaut to pull in revenues, if they were offered even 5% gross that'd be more than what they'd make on a sucky net take on an in-house produced Spidey. (I'm technically wrong, since it says that Sony retains control over the Spiderman franchise and will hold financing, distribution and creative control - but I doubt that's really the case behind the scenes)

I don't think there has been anything mentioned about a new actor for Spiderman 3b.

It's been confirmed that it will be a new actor playing Spidey

As it should be IMO. Marvel just wants the character, they don't want to have any actual ties to what Sony is doing with Spiderman. Marvel will cast their own spiderman to fit the style of film they plan on making. It'll probably be awesome too.

I've seen some talk over people wanting to see Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker as the MCU Spider-Man. Thoughts? I'm wondering if that would work since moviegoers probably strongly associate Peter Parker with Spider-Man. I mean... we've had Spider-Man movies for 13 years and they've all been Peter Parker.

pardon my ignorance but I don't get it, isn't Spider-man a Marvel comic creation? Is the news about Sony and Disney partnering up or something?

When Marvel wasn't doing so hot they were selling rights to other production companies, Sony bought spiderman movie rights. As long as they keep producing movies they keep the rights, which is why we have 5 spiderman movies in so few years (it was also making decent $).

Sony didn't sell the right back to Marvel, it looks like the licensed it back to them.

Thank you North Korea for ruining Sony Picture's reputation so much they have to lean on Disney.

Nobody except closet racists will care. Also, the peter parker origin story has been done to death and I Don't want to sit through it again. I'd much rather watch a different one.

Yes, this is about movie licensing.

If you want to get more confused, look at theme park licensing. In Florida, Universal Studios owns the theme park rights (East of the Mississippi) to most Marvel Avengers characters

That means Disney (who owns Marvel) cannot have those Avengers characters in Disney World.
Disney can (and does) have Marvel Acengers characters in its California Disneyland.

Was inevitable after the second Amazing Spider-Man sucked so much.

Should be interesting to see how the new F4 movie does; maybe they are not long for Fox.

Wow, that's nuts.

This image should make things as clear as mud for movie rights.
