Caught this bad mother in our bedroom right above our bed.
Looks like a wolf spider to me. Am I right or am I nuking this house from orbit just to be sure? :)

Might be a wolf. It's nothing harmful if you're in the USA

I tend to catch one of those every winter - seems they like the warmth of the house and somehow make their way into the rooms. Yeah, I'm in NorCal.

Nuke it from orbit just to be safe.

EDIT: Damn it OP, you can't use possibly funny responses on the original post.

Nah, not a barn spider at all - definitely not a weaver. Very quick and lightning fast reaction.

Yup. Wolfs are roaming hunters and rely more on brute force and speed than venom to catch and hold prey.

They are fun to play with using a piece of thread or hair, very cat like.

If you wet a Q tip and slowly nudge it to their face or very slowly push it into their front leg without startling them so they feel it wet, they will crouch forward and sink their fangs into it for a drink. Though judging from it's belly, yours isn't lacking in things to eat around the house ;)

I'd just empty a whole can of RAID on that thing. Insects don't below inside the house, I don't care how beneficial you are, don't come in my house!

That seems like an orb weaver to me. Responsible for those huge cobwebs that you can run into. *shivers, has phobia of spider webs*. Either way, it does look like it's in the KillItWithFire species group.

Oh, and this thread needs more pictures of spiders. I get a lot of these in/around my house:

A few years ago combined with new construction from an empty lot across the street there was an infestation of Wolf Spiders in our neighborhood. Seriously, it was something from a SciFy movie. You could not walk outside without seeing and stepping on these spiders. The city said it was Wolf Spiders, that they can bite, but are basically harmless, they should disperse in about 1 week. Actually they were right. About a week went by and they were all gone. We must have killed 40 or 50 of them in that one week. Now, years later, we can’t even find one. They are lightning fast, they can bite and leave a red mark, but there is no venom. They appear to be timid of people and would rather go away than fight or bite.

Any spider has venom. Wolf spider venom is just about as bad as something a hornet would hit you with though. The severity will of course also depend on how much the spider injects.

Most spiders (at least the ones here) will run away from people as well. I have been bitten in my sleep though, but not a huge deal. It's actually funny to chase them around. :p They walk so funny.

Not a thread-worthy spider. It's not even big. Just toss the thing outside.

Agreed, I came in here expecting a right nasty one! Booooooo hisssssss....

And to whomever it was that said you're ok if your in the States, uh, wrong? We have black widows and brown recluses in the US, definitely not ok to try and catch/play with those!
