What is it? Will it kill me if I get near it? I've seen some giant brown wolf spiders around here, but I am not familiar with black spiders.

FML I tried to get it into a cup and it ran around the rim and almost onto my hand. While my life flashed before my eyes, I dropped it, screamed like a girl, and ran out of the room waving my hands. Now it's gone, and I have no idea where it went, and is probably pissed off at me. Well, I guess controlled burn is the only option left at this point.

Spent like 10-15 minutes trying to get the angle on it too and totally failed. Damnit.

That thing looks horrible and there is no way I'm googling images to try to identify it.

I'd ask for your stuff for when the spider gets you, but I'd rather not have spider-infested stuff.

It's probably a female based on the large rotund abdomen

looks sort of like this Arizona Black Hole Spider
http://bugguide.net/node/view/624554/bgpage
they're typically found around arizona and neighboring states though

Based off a web I found, and my location (New Mexico), I would say that is probably it then. I didn't find anything negative about them (so I can sleep tonight) but damn they can get so much bigger than even what I've got running around : http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/sho...zona-Black-Hole-Spider-(Kukulcania-arizonica)

Why use a cup, then you are screwed if they run at the last moment. Unless you're facing a tarantula use the lid of a CD/DVD spindle instead.
