That's great and all, but neither one would address my greatest concern: how fast is it? If it's slow, it's merely scary, but if it's fast...

Well, it's got 8 independent legs that appear to be several inches long. If I had to guess, I'd say it could cover at least 1ft/second not counting any jumping.

Jumping? Jumping? <little girl scream> aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh</little girl scream>

Aww, come on people, spiders and centipedes are our friends.

They eat other insects. They kill all the the bad stuff in the house.

That one probably got a mouse or two.

Huntsmen do not build webs but forage for food - mostly insects and other invertebrates.

Maybe it'd try to eat me then -- I imagine that I would be pretty spineless if I came across that behind my wall clock.

potentially very large (up to 15cm across) -- can be as large as 6 inches across for the metric impair.

I don't know the exact speed, but huntsman spiders got its name partially from its agility/speed.

Some Spider Facts
"Spiders often seem to move quickly, and they can. Tests in England in the 1970s revealed that specimens of Tegenaria atrica could run at 1.9 km/h or 1.18 mph over short distances. While this may not seem fast if we consider it in light of the spiders small size (330 times its own length in 10 seconds) it is the equivalent of a 2 metre tall man running 2 km in the same time, which would give him a speed of 720 km/h (480 mph)."

The above site claimed the the largest web is about 30'x8' with is small compared to the Prince George, BC spider web "stretching 60 acres across a field".

Or a cat... maybe a small child... maybe a german shepherd.

I'm terrified of the 2" legspan (but hairy and big-bodied) wolf spiders in my area.. if I saw the thing in that picture firsthand I'd likely pass out, no exaggeration.

Don't know about all of you, but I'd have wept like a little baby if I saw that in my house and probably just have soaked the entire building in gasoline. Things like that are ungodly.
I would have run out the front door or jumped off my second floor patio, whichever was furthest away from the spider. Then I would have called 911 from a neighbor's house and left it to Animal Control to impound that beast!
