spicy ramen?

So with all these Ramen houses opening, I swear half of them are fake. Only a few are authentic. Most of them are Chinese operated or something. Anyways, I've gone to a few good ones that taste very similar to ramen in Japan, but today I got some house special ramen that's spicy at a place I've never been to before. It's not salty like ramen should be like, and I was wondering if this was just fake. Japanese foods aren't spicy. Wasabi is the only spicy thing I thought.. derno

you remember the name of the ramen?
tan tan mein? = spicy shredded pork with lots of green onions. one of my favorites. Chinese influenced but it IS Japanese.

Ramen is Japanese.
BTW, if you live in the bay area there is this one ramen place that makes their tonkatsu soup base from scratch and it is super good. The place is tiny and there is always a wait but, that is to be expected.

PM if you'd like to know where.

Meh.

Oh well, who cares, everyone eats it anyway! 🙂

too many chinese operated ramen places that make awful ramen, they are like too soft or it looks more like Chinese noodles than ramen. how was the ramen though? chewy? or soft?

Ramen is the Japanese version of the Chinese noodle soup dish la miàn (lit. "pulled noodles"). The original Chinese la mian is believed to have been served with sauce. Ramen has been firmly integrated into the Japanese culinary landscape, and many regional variations exist.

Was it one of these?

japs jacked it from the koreans and claimed it as their owned. best ramen = Shin Ramen

From random google site:

Ramen is a Chinese dish of noodles in soup that the Japanese have made very much their own. It is the cornerstone of Japanese fast food and millions of bowls are consumed every day, not counting that other Japanese institution - instant ramen.

Many regions of Japan have their own particular style of ramen and even individual ramen shops have their own distinctive flavour and style. Arguments rage over the ideal thickness of the noodles, the right constituent ingredients for the soup stock and what toppings work best. What is certain is that everyone has their favourite place and a local's recommendation is always worth getting.

Ramen shops are usually at street-level and so are easy to spot. Often they are little more than a kitchen and a counter. Many have standing space only. There's no ceremony to eating ramen so abandon convention and slurp to your hearts content.

You might get the choice between miso (bean paste), shoyu (soy) or shio (salt) flavoured soup though the stock base is always made from meat bones. Many places however serve only one kind that may have been honed and developed over many years. Popular toppings follow its Chinese origins and include fatty slices of chashu (roast pork), crunchy fresh bean sprouts and menma (seasoned bamboo shoots).

Tonkatsu soup ramen is the best. I agree that korean ramen is pretty damn good too.

Ramen Halu? That place has been on SJ Mercury news about a billion times. There are lines outside everytime I go, and there are lines before it even opens ><. I waited forever with 3 friends to get in for lunch 1 day.

No.

1) I believe food at Asian Ghetto is completely Americanized. Furthermore, I know the Japanese store there is Taiwanese owned. I walk in and they start speaking Taiwanese among themselves... uhhh frankly my grandma cooks closer to Japanese given that she was in Taiwan during the occupation.

2) No I'm not in Berkeley during summer.
