Spicing up my life...

In pondering the general boredom in my life lately, I thought of a few "one time" things that I'd like to do before I die.

They include, but are not limited to:

-- Standing on board an operational and undocked U.S. Aircraft Carrier
-- Seeing an F-22, B-2, or other "very cool" aircraft at close distance

Can anyone comment on the possibility of either of these happening for me? 🙂

Join the Navy and it might happen. There aren't too may tourist trips on board a carrier.

I think you are setting the bar way too low. I would put two chicks at once higher on your list.

obvious:
join the navy/air force.
be a foreign spy stealing US tech.
become the president of the US, have a banner in the background declaring victory

easier options:
work for the Military channel
Smithsonain air + space meuseum - has the f22 and f35 (joint strike fighter) on display
air show to see the b2 (there are no known b2's on display. and at a cost of $2.2B each, i would hope not)

I've seen a B-2 up very very close at Whiteman AFB (we could reach out and touch it, but a couple of 18 year old kids with assault rifles prevented us from doing so). This was an incredible experience - especially since I'm an aerospace engineer. However, this is not one of those "do before I die" things.

If you are obsessed with airplanes, you want to go to the USAF museum in Dayton, OH. Not only is it completely free, it's the best aircraft museum in the world. They have the original YF-22 test plane, as well as a B-2 that was a ground test plane (I've seen this and the real deal - you can't tell the difference, except they disguised the back end of the one in the museum a bit). You can pretty much get as close as you want.

In addition to all other sorts of weird planes, they have the XB-70, considered by most to be the most exotic plane ever made.

I agree with the others though - there's a LOT more stuff to do that is way more fun.

I'd really enjoy a walk in a park on a crisp night while smelling the scents of the fresh rain on the leaves. That and listening to Handel's Messiah while enjoying a bottle of nice scotch.

Knowing you... it would be the whole bottle. 😛 Then again, you'd have about an hour to enjoy it.

Welcome back to civilization Marine.

I've been that close to the B-2 also. I go to the airshow at Whiteman every year. I only live about an hour away, so B-2s would fly over all the time. The best planes to see fly by are those A-10 Warthogs. They would fly over probably once a week, and you could always tell when they were coming. I swear one time they flew over so low, I could see decals on the plane, and they are so loud. Man I love those planes

I remember going to the airshow 3 or 4 years ago and a B-2 was going to fly over the base, and the announcer goes "Well folks seeing a B-2 fly is a once in a lifetime event." Every one I was with looked at each other and said not for us, we see it fly almost weekly.

Otherwise, find a friend or fam who has a lot of privilege to bring visitors into a military base.

Like the other guy said, join the Navy.

-or-

quit wasting your time playing Starkrak and get a life outside your paradigm.
