Spiced Rum Versus

Do need to try a good dark rum one day, never really had the opportunity to (and won't buy it on a gamble), other than a vanilla dark rum hand-bottled in Martinique and sold at a small shoppe in the port town.

I think you saw my other post, but try some Flor De Cana. I bought the 7 year and it was delicious. Not too sweet, not too dry, and so smooth.

If anyone dislikes rum and has only tried Bacardi or other crap, they're making a big mistake.

Went to Barbados recently for my honeymoon. My wife and I took a tour of Mount Gay Distillieries (one of the oldest rum distilleries in the world.) We had a tasting and bought several bottles of Mount Gay Rum as present and for ourselves. Mount Gay Eclipse is great for mixing and Mount Gay Extra Old is great for drinking straight up. And for those of you that like to splurge, Mount Gay Old Cask is their most premium. Not sure how common Mount Gay Rum is, but give it a try if you do see it. You won't be disappointed.

Spiced rum is okay, depending on what you get. Captain Morgan Private Stock is pretty decent for a spiced rum, and relatively inexpensive.

I prefer dark rums like Myers for things like a rum and coke or just for drinking straight.

Sailor Jerry is a more awesome version of Captain, or spiced rum in general.

I don't think I've bought a bottle of rum since the night I got drunk as a skunk on rum and cokes and made friends with a toilet as a junior at the University. The thought a another rum and coke repels me.

Dark rum is fantastic. Straight up or mixed. Light rum should be mixed. Spiced rum neat or mixed, depends on the brand. Sailor Jerry is quite good, not too much a fun of Capn morgan. I like Capn morgan private stock however, neat.

Xing the sailor jerry, it's truly the best spiced rum you will find at its price point in the southern US as far as I can tell. Capn morg private stock is an entirely different product than the standard capt morg booze as well, like this dude says.

On another note, I currently have most of a handle of Admiral Nelson's in my freezer (leftover from my birthday). That shit was raunchy when I drank it, and thinking about it makes me want to hurl. That being said, I'll probably wind up buying some Coke and having a few mixers to try and get rid of some of it.
