Spent 3 hours trying to get contacts in...

I got my eyes checked at Costco the other day so I could finally try contacts. I've been wearing glasses since I was two years old (am almost 26 now).

This is so dam frustrating. My eyes are so sensitive that every time I'd get the lens close to my eye, it would slam shut. Not gonna give up quite yet though...going for a third visit in a couple days.

keep trying... it gets easier.

tips:

make sure the finger on which you're balancign the contact is clean and DRY. if its wet the contact will adhere to your finger instead of your eyeball.

tilt your head down so that you have to roll your eyes up to see the mirror, put the contact on your eyeball between the iris and lower lid (you can stretch the lower lid down with one finger, and hold the upper lid open with the other hand

my wife can not do this because she gets all freaked out by things touching her eyeball. I remind her that her eyeball is continously touching the inside of her eye socket and eye lids just to irritate her.

I got mine in on the first try in about 20-30 seconds. Just keep practicing, it is worth it... My eye doctor just switched me over from biomedics to Acuvue Oasis ( i have dry eyes during this time of year and allergies to boot). Also, she got me using Clean and Clear solution to clean my lenses since those multipurpose solutions don't remove any residue at all. Sparkly clean everyday =). So if you have allergies maybe you should jump on that.


My new optometrist is HOT.

Yeah, I've researched it quite a bit but not willing to take the chance yet. Will probably take the plunge in a few more years.

Don't work too hard at it or you will end up aggravating your eye. I'd say poking at my eyes for 3 hours in a day would seriously screw it up.

I seem to be getting slowly better at exposing my eyeball. So you're saying though to start lower and then somehow slide it up onto the iris? My main problem seems to be my upper lid because I can't get a good grip on it and it slides down or slams shut as soon as I make contact with my eye.

It was 3 hours spread over 2 visits....about 1.5 hours each attempt. I took a break on my second visit and walked around Costco for a bit, but that didn't seem to help. My eyes are still a bit irritated and dry and I've been home for about an hour now.

my acuvue's center themselves, so i put it on the white part, then rotate my head up and down and back and forth to center them. works well. i can put the contacts in one handed. i only pull down on the lower part and stick in the lens. after a while you won't get the reaction from the upper eyelid.

My friends started calling me names when I couldn't put them in... now I can put them in super fast. Just touch your eyeball...not a big deal.

You're lucky you can wear contacts. I wore them for about two years, but now I can't for more than a few minutes without my eyes getting irritated. I've been to three doctors, no one can fix it...

Yeah, they can be tricky. Go with HomeBrewerDude's suggestions. No matter where you put it on the eye, thecontact will slide right into place after a couple eyerolls with your eyes closed.

Punch yourself in the eye, then immediately insert contacts. Distraction FTW.

im teh same. it takes me a long time to get them in. then when i finally get it in my eyes burn for about 15 minutes.

been thinking of surgery but still worry about it failing heh. not to mention im a wuss and don't think i could have it done.

yeah. I plop mine below the pupil/iris and when the contact sticks to the eye, i then rotate my eyeball down to slid the contact up over the iris.

If youre losing grip on your eyelid, make sure your eyes and finger tips are clean and dry.

its like that about the first couple of weeks but after awhile you can pop em in and out with no problems...

my procedure is this, after a shower and washing the crust out of my eyes, i position myself in front of the mirror.
i place the contact into my left palm and squirt cleaning solution onto teh contact and rub with right ring finger. then i place the contact onto my right pointer finger.
looking into the mirror, i open my eyelids using the middle fingers of each hand (right middle finger gets the lower lid, the left grabs the top lid) then i carefully place the contact directly onto the iris....blink a few times....
rinse, repeat and i can see for the win! it takes about 15 seconds each eye

it prolly burns because after all the fighting getting them in, the contact may be somewhat dry or have schmootz on em, invest in lots of rewetting drops
