Agreed. A guy at an iBank wore a shirt with a pocket and was about to go in to a meeting. His boss saw him and ORDERED him to get a shirt without a button! He rushed out and bought a shirt without a button.

This is the level of professionalism they expect. A shirt with a button is not smart enough for them.

Maybe we need to tie together who has what opinion based on what lifestyle they lead and where there live. I own 3 pairs of $100+ jeans. I'm a single 31 yr old young prof in NYC making solid dollars. I go out 2-3 nights a week. Probably drop around $50/night on drinks, so whats $100 for jeans that last years?

I'm wearing 45 dollar dkny jeans right now that are very nice. My timberland shoes I have on were 60 dollars but I've had them 14 months now.

I am simply arguing that having a really nice pair of jeans is not a bad thing and people can tell the difference between someone with 3 year old shabby jeans and someone with a nice fitting pair of jeans.

Also some people's body types just wont look good in certain brands of jeans. I could never wear diesel jeans for instance but the dkny's fit and look good on me.

Oh, let's talk about shoes!

I have ONE pair of shoes too. Running shoes. I wear them to walk to school, to jog, bike, and weight lift. They were 40 bucks on sale. My stride is uneven so they are word badly on the inside in only like 4 months...

Before that I had $80 Nikes of same type that I worn out in about 7 months, but I didn't run or walk much back then.

Soles on both shoes are smooth from all the miles on my two!

icebergslim: I feel for you man. Everyone in this thread just doesn't get it. I would also be guessing that a lot of these people aren't in metro areas where these jeans are a dime a dozen. Its just a different experience overall. Believe me, you will be socially ostracized if you wear wrangler jeans to a club/bar in Scottsdale

With me and the guys I hang out with, all of them have at least one nice pair of jeans (Seven for all mankind, True religion, Rock and Republic, Citizens of Humanity). I just started buying nice jeans around a year ago and now i have around 5 pairs (mostly sevens). The difference in quality is actually very huge. Most people like to act like its just a label. Maybe 50% of the price is just the label, but the nice pairs of jeans I have fit me so much better and are so much more comfortable than the jeans I used to buy. Its all simply a manner of preference.

I bet none of you on here have ever gotten a compliment on your wranglers or levis jeans. I get compliments to the tune of around 1+ per month (At the least). Girls DO NOTICE, do NOT act like they don't. Its been a conversation starter a couple of times as well.



I used to be able to justify buying expensive video cards and upgrading my computer every 4 - 6 months. Now I don't do that at all, I just have a laptop that I upgrade every 1 - 2 years and a desktop i upgrade every 2 years or so. I spend my money on more important things than a couple frames per second. Now I find upgrading your computer constantly is a stupid, money losing game. I get a lot more (social) value out of my jeans than a video card. Its called diminishing marginal returns, and I dont find much marginal returns out of a video card that loses half its value in a couple months.

For the people that say nice clothes dont matter.....Lets say there were 2 exact copies of you. One of you is wearing nice jeans/shirt. The other one of you is wearing wranglers and a wal-mart shirt. You are at a bar talking to a girl you haven't ever met before. Both copies of you get the same chance with the girl and say the same things. There would be a 90% certainty that this girl is enjoying the company of the well dressed you more than the cheaper clothes you. Its all about the full package, and if you are severely lacking on the fashion front, people notice.
 
People seem to be taking very extreme positions here. They assume that just because someone won't spend $100+ on a pair of jeans or a shirt, then that must mean they are a bum who doesn't shower, shave, work out, etc. I personally don't think the $20-30 jeans/shirts look *that* much different than the $80-$100 pairs (beyond that price range I can't comment, as I've never really shopped for them), and that a person with a little bit of sense can put something decent-looking together using the $20-30 range of clothes. Quality is another matter entirely - I am only speaking of appearances. If you put together something using clothes from the $20-30 range, pay good attention to hygiene, fitness, etc., are you really going to be 5x worse off in social situations than someone who spend $100+ on clothes? I guess I just find that hard to believe.

 
in honor of this thread I went shopping for jeans during lunch and nearly pulled the trigger on a $138 pair of ed hardy jeans. I opted to purchase 2 designer shirts instead which came to 60 dollars. Not bad.

I did not buy the jeans because they werent exactly the fit I was looking for and I wanted to check out nordstroms collection first. So I will likely get a pair next week.

You are correct. I am taking an extreme position on the opposite spectrum b/c I find it pretty funny (and ironic) that the same people who spend $400+ on a brand new video card or PS3 are the same ones saying others are stupid for spending a lot of money on a nice pair of jeans.

I think it all depends on the area you live in. If you live in certain places in California (SD, LA, SF, pretty much all big towns) then these jeans are a dime a dozen. You see them everywhere. Sometimes I see more Seven jeans on a given night than Levis or normal jeans. Since I live in AZ, right next to Scottsdale (Which is pretty much LA without the ocean) I see this stuff all day. I am just doing my part to keep up my appearance.

If you live in a small rural town, I think most people would laugh at you for wearing expensive jeans. I guess my opinion is only really justified in the larger metro areas in america

Ed Hardy is slowly getting played out. I still like his designs tho, it just sucks when all I see are Ed Hardy and affliction shirts everywhere (I HATE AFFLICTION SHIRTS)
 
If you wait until the season ends you find clothes that are an absolute steal. Stores get desperate to unload them and slash prices to 1/8th or so of the original price.
Last weekend I picked up two 100% merino wool sweaters, plus a button-down dress shirt for $34 total. Those items were originally priced in the $60-$100 range. I "saved" ~85%.

I'd say its foolish to buy clothes during the season. Of course there's always the risk that whatever you want is sold out by then. But if you stay out of the store till later, you won't know you missed out.

(of course jeans aren't as seasonal.)
 
It's your money, do as you please.

What really annoys me is a plain cotton t-shirt with a single logo (or print) made in China that costs over $100.
