My spending has been unreal recently too..we are like 2 peas in a pod.

Vitamix, new bike, bike lights, water bottle holder, steamer, futon, trash can, etc etc etc. I have been tracking every cent I spend, including vending machine purchases.

At least you guys are buying useful things. This past week I spent $4,500 on trading cards. I'm buying them by the case now. I'll post up the more interesting chase cards I got later.

Dude, at least build a HDFS if you are looking to spend money.

OK, I'll bite. Why do you need a gluegun? I thought they were only used for popsickle stick houses and dioramas for 4th-grade book report projects.

But before you answer: I think the bedazzles will fall off of your bitching bicycle shorts if you don't sew or rivet them on.

He needs it to fix the suit.

Bought a KitchenAid Artisan. PINK.

$250. Not a good price but not a terrible price. Should be here next week. I didn't want to wait anymore. There's shit I need to bake (METH) that requires a stand mixer to be time efficient and frustration free.

My vitamix came in today.

Nice. Mine came in yesterday. I haven't gotten to use it yet. I'm waiting until tomorrow when I get a cup and some straws to come in the mail. Didn't realize I needed a straw until I was like, "Wait a second... I drink smoothies through a straw. How am I going to do this without a straw?!"

Ordered some nice metal straws and a nice double walled metal cup. Should be good!

I sometimes go on spending frenzies, but wow. Not that much. 😛

I have a basic rule, if I want to buy something big, or do a home project that is not necessary, I save up for it. For smaller things, I make sure there's enough money in the bank for it as well.

Occasionally, I sometimes break that rule though. I did that this summer when I decided to get central A/C - and glad I did because it's been a hot one. Had some money saved up to start building a shed, but that did not happen. Via other spending such as camping and other stuff, the money I had saved up for the shed kind of just disappeared, now I'm 4k in debt. The total cost of the A/C.

Good thing we finally got our new union agreement though, and 2% raise, in fact the retro payment just came in literally like 5 minutes ago, I just checked my bank. 2.8k clear right in the bank. 😀 That's before all the bills that are about to come out though, so going to take 1k and put it on the credit line. Rest will mostly get taken by all the bills. Though it's start of the month, so not as many bills as the end.

I keep telling myself I need to come up with a way to make money on the side though, and just never put anything into action. I get lot of time off because of shift work, so no excuse really.

Got a Rowenta DW9280 Iron and a Rowenta Ironing Board. Top of the line or bust! 🙂

Admittedly, the ironing board isn't top of the line. I bought them both used off of craigslist for a measly $50. Basically cheaper than buying a cheap ass brand new board and iron. BAM WHAM THANK YOU MA'AM.

Good for you, those items new would cost about $340. I barely buy things new these days.
Have you tried thrift shops/Goodwill/Salvation army? I've got good items for a bargain.

Ah, I think new they were closer to $140 for the iron (plus tax) and maybe $75 (plus tax) for the board. Who knows tho. Still a good deal considering.

Yeah. Reminds me of that SNL skit: "Don't buy stuff you can't afford" 😀

I give myself a weekly allowance (which I usually let build up over a month to buy new kitchen gadgets lol), and for anything big, I split it into automatically weekly withdrawls into a savings account. Most recently, picked up an HTC Vive. It's nice not having to shell out a big chunk of money when you can just put a bit away every week instead!

I think financial responsibility pretty much boils down to just one thing: you can buy anything you can responsibly afford. That can mean Ramen or that can mean a Ferrari, depending on your budget. I've learned a lot about finances over the years (I'm no guru, but I've found a setup that works well for me!)...I think when I joined these forums, I was just starting out in college & was working at a minimum-wage job, and now I have a full-time job that pays decent, and have gone through a lot of different systems trying to figure out what works best for me. I've detailed it in another post, but I basically use a reloadable debit card with a weekly allowance, plus a backup CC with $1k on it for gas & emergencies, and then have all of my recurring bills come out on auto-pay from the bank. I almost never have to pay attention to managing the system because it prevents me from shooting myself in the foot financially.

It's more restricting in the sense that it doesn't let you go spend-crazy & requires more patience to save up for stuff, but again, it's just another thing I don't have to think about it. I've been big on that stuff ever since I read that article on "decision fatigue" & automating systems in your life to get better results. Stuff like digitizing all of my movies/music/photos/documents, setting up a snailmail center with a scanner & shredder that hooks into a PC to OCR PDF's into Google Drive, reducing my wardrobe to 10 days or so of clothes, scheduling gas fill-ups twice a week before work so the cars are always topped off, etc. Set everything up on a schedule based on context (where you're at), do the work first & play later, and then you have more time to nef guilt-free! 😎

What are you talking about? I have real world experience with many double wall glasses. They break constantly. I've bought about five different brands for myself and friends. They're all fragile and they all break! Reviewers everywhere say the same thing. Double wall glasses really don't last if you use them regularly. ESPECIALLY WITH ICE. Ice just breaks them whenever you drop a cube in. Even from the height of the glass! I have to slide my cubes in at an angle to make sure they don't break. Also have to be careful when having a few cubes in the glass and you are getting the last drops out of the glass. When the cubes slide back down when you put the glass down, they can break the glass that way too. Really sucks. I might go with metal construction eventually but I really do like the glasses a lot...

Oh, and for those who are also criticizing me about the $80 trash can... I bought a $200 trash can for a friend some time back. 😱 I don't even splurge /that much/ for myself. We get to joke about her $200 trash can now.

I have enough money to buy the things that I do. I buy all of the stuff I do because I plan to use it regularly or when I do use it I want it to work well and I want it to last a long time.

A lot of the stuff I'm buying because I put it off for 4-6 years and I'm tired of holding off. I want the shit I want!

What kind of man cares this much about kitchen equipment? When I moved in to my apartment almost 5 years ago I bought the cheapest thing at walmart for everything. $15 toaster $60 microwave(check out lady insisted it'd break that I need the warranty) $15 trashcan cheapest dishes. Guess what I don't know if my glasses are single wall double wall whatever I still have the motherfuckers, even my drunk ass managed not to break them. I splurged on $100 hoover vacuum because cheap ones are junk. Didn't buy a cheap blender until a few years ago never use it, I cook all time but mix by hand because I'm not a girl. Everything still works great moved it all to my new house last year.

I want I want I want, you are a definitely a woman

I've made a couple smoothies since it came in and they are almost too smooth. I've used my mom's vitamix a while back (which is maybe 5-6 years old and looks similar to mine) and could never get the smoothies quite so smooth, not that it was a problem since I like a bit of texture in smoothies.

I'm using the following "recipes":

Strawberry Banana Smoothie
- 1 Bowl Frozen Strawberries
- 2 Bananas
- Little bit of Milk
-> Makes 2 large cups

Mango Banana Carrot Smoothie
- 3/4 - 1 Bowl of Frozen Mango
- 1 Banana
- 1 Carrot
- Little bit of Orange Juice
-> Makes 1 large cup

I don't water them down with ice.

Bwahahaha, you should come to my house. I have 3 metal racks full of kitchen gadgets 😀

What kind of man cares about kitchen equipment? The kind who likes to eat delicious homemade food 24/7. Like sous-vide steak:

My Blendtec tends to make smoothies too smooth. If you're using a blender exclusively for smoothies, I'd go with a Vitamix because it does give it more texture. I like smoothies out of a Vitamix better tbh (it's a slight edge, but it is an edge), but I also use my Blendtec for a lot of other things (including liquifying stuff). Either way though, you can't go wrong. It's been so nice having a blender that has lasted me nearly 10 years without breaking...

Or, you know, he's a mature working adult who budgets for things he wants to buy responsibly 😛

You're in a different class along those lines, obviously 🙂 There has never been much along the lines of mature, adult, or responsible in a TridenT post, but he likes to perpetuate that.

There are many foodies running amok here.

I made on yesterday. Came out super smooth. Which is fine, I made sure it did because I overdid it. I can't remember my recipe I used (I just made one up because I didn't have all the right ingredients). Something like one cup of strawberries, one cup of mango, half a cup of raspberry sherbet/sorbet, cup of lemonade, and a cup of ice. More than enough for one person... I still have half of it in the freezer. I'll thaw it out and see if it still tastes good. I was surprised yesterday though, thought it'd taste like shit because I was just making it up on the fly.
