It means "nevermind", usual alternatives commonly seen around here are "nvm" and "nm".

Quit baiting Keys. I hope you all realize that, no matter what your intention and how good/noble they might be, he is still a super moderator and mod-callout is still a violation. Don't let DrPizza catch you. Most of you feel very strongly about this issue, take it up in Moderator Discussions please.

------------------

That being said, going back on topic, I am still of the opinion that "waiting" right now is acceptable and makes a little more sense:
1.) Card is not urgently needed; OP was merely wondering what 200-250 dollar card could be a reasonable upgrade.
2.) Waiting for Christmas (a viable option included by the OP himself) seems to be a productive option, now that AMD has reportedly promised 5xxx price cuts in the near future, which most likely will be before Christmas since 6xxx timeline was "Oct announcement, Nov release".

Since the facts on the ground changed when AMD made the price cut promise, it made the "waiting" option more attractive, while making the "buy now" option less attractive. Whether the effect is significant enough to cross the threshold of one's personal preference to buy or wait is a very individual thing.

For me, it has crossed the "waiting" threshold, so I am sitting tight. I do not wish to buy any card now (I still have a reliable gaming card) when in two months the price could drop significantly.

So it is not about "well, you can wait forever with that logic" - rather, it is looking at what is the best time to make a purchase (hint: not when prices are about to be cut), and when facts on the ground change, so does the decision-making process. Something is wrong with the decision-making process when it is never affected by a change in the facts or new input / information.

Thanks for the sentiment Jvroig, but I was posting as a member only. The fact that I'm also a moderator does not matter. Madcat did not call me out as a moderator, but he is baiting, which is something he won't stop doing.

If you say so. Shall we all go back and play the past recommendations game? I can play. And what is your current recommendation? Oh look, pretty much the same as mine. So what's the problem?

nonono. Although attack is often the best defence, you shouldnt attack me, rather i was curious to as why you didnt want to object to being called out as subjective.. Not that most people expect anything else seeing your very subjective signature, but still. You know what i mean. You can still be objective when recommending a product as a person regardless of your signature, is what im saying/asking. And if you dont want to defend this point yourself, I just did it for you. This is why i asked in the first place.

As dug777 said in another topic, to Scali: dont let the forum get you down or give you thoughts of grandeur.

You can go read my current recommendations across a few topics: i have no problem recommending an upgrade of whichever card the OP wants, be it a GTX460 or a Radeon5870, but i ADD that we do have some new cards comming in at the end of this year. Atleast according to AMD, and look, i even add a joke about hoping its not another Fermi :D

If YOU did the same a year ago, i have no further comments, if not, pls dont tuck your tail in and hide. Admit or object to the argument being presented.

disclaimer, regardless of what jvroig says, this is nothing personal, my post was ment in good spirit and i let it be known as that.

I don't see Keys posting in his capacity as a mod, so why do you feel special rules apply, jvroig?
I'm sorry, I did not mean for it to look that way. I don't think of it as "special rules", and I realize now that I misused the mod-callout term. I may have had the wrong impression initially, but it is just getting tiresome that it all goes back to what seems to be resentment against keys for being a mod+focus group member at the same time which derails countless threads. He was just accused of being a "marketer" right?

Now that you point it out and I've reviewed the previous posts, it is not as worse as I thought it was when I posted. My mistake, you are right.

But it is irritating nonetheless - I am sure you know how it starts (like this one) and how it ends (thread after thread after thread), accusations of any of the following: bias, unfairness, actual mod callout, focus group mod is clearly violation, etc.

Had this been the first, or one of a few, it would have been nothing. But this is an annoying pattern that has arisen. In a recent thread (which did actually derail into another "moderator discussions" thread), the one who implied the same thing (keys = marketer, nvidia spinner, etc) was publicly warned.

Yes, I know what you mean, jvroig.

Fortunately, keys can continue to post his opinions as a regular ATFer, Focus Group member or whatever without it infringing on his duties as a mod (or vice versa).

If most people don't expect anything else seeing my very subjective signature, then why do you ask? I am objective. I have a strong Nvidia preference and this manifests itself in my recommendations. Why would you recommend something that you do not like for yourself? As you will find is the case where members feel the opposite.

In my recommendations in the past, did I not give any reason? Or did I just suggest Nvidia all willy nilly? I'm sure I had my reasons and made them known, whether you agreed with them or not.

Now, if you would like to discuss this further, I'll add you as a contact in my PM's and we can talk. Because frankly, I've had enough of this public baiting, as you well know it is.

Added.

I certainly got warned and penalized for suggesting he was viral marketing for nvidia by often spreading fud about ati and personally attacking others in the process.

And you just felt that you had to repeat this again in this carefully worded sentence again to reiterate your position.

Take a few take off to see the errors of your ways.

Accepted you as a friend Keys :)

To bring this topic back into some resemblance of ontopicness.:

We know Nvidia had trouble with the memory controller on Fermi. What will the result of a "fully developed" memory controller on Fermi be? will it make it possible to achive the same speeds on the memory as AMD does with the Hd5870?

What could this mean in terms of performance increase?

True. There's always a reason to wait. If you wait until December there will be a reason to wait until early Feb. and so forth. Just buy the best value you can find and be happy.

Wait for mid September/October for Southern island.. And buy it at launch.

Spend it now on a GTX460 1g factory overclocked version. a 460 will be around the gtx285 lvl of performance if you compare it to the generation of cards of which you have one.

Dont hit me if im off 5%-10% though, i could be.

a nice card in any case.

For the past few weeks now I've been seeing jibberish in people's posts like this. I'm not sure what it is, or what they're trying to say but I'm sure they're not actually typing "5%-10%" lol...

Any idea what's going on?

why do I need subtitles? sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm not sure why so many of you out there persist in criticizing keys. For as long as I have known him, he has had a clear bias for nvidia. Is it an unjustified bias? I don't think so at all, most serious gamers over the past 5 years have strongly slanted towards nvidia cards. Do I always agree with him? definitely not. In fact, I feel strongly that the recent amd offerings have been overall better and certainly more timely than nvidia's from a gaming perspective. If idiots like rollo and wreckage would pay more attention to keysplayr's posts then we wouldn't have nearly as much animosity around here these days. Why can't we just have a few threads where the actual pros and cons of the cards are debated/discussed instead of letting each and every one devolve into "...but, but, FOCUS GROUP devils..." or "...your red tinted glasses would make you eat hector ruiz' shit..." ?
