If you are too lazy to even attempt to write out a coherent post, why should anyone take your opinions seriously? The odd typo or misspelling isn't so bad, but when people write like a 3 year old (especially when English is their first language), they should expect ridicule.

Obviously there are examples where it does. Obviously sometimes it hampers understanding. But if it doesnt, then it shouldnt be pointed out, and sometimes when people do its really really annoying. I have friend who is rediculously smart, and he cant spell for shit. Well hes not that bad but sometimes he is...anyways...for the record I am not good with my right pinky so I dont really care to put in apostrophes. Is that an issue for you? GO SEEK HELP

That should be "OF COURSE SPELLING AND GRAMMAR MATTER". ;)

That and he misspelled ridiculous TWICE!

Sorry for the rant(,) however(,) I just can't get over the infantile assholes who have to cite every single spelling error in som(e)one's post without providing any useful information. For one(,) (mis) (this could go either way, but generally it makes more sense to link spelling->intelligence and misspelling->stupidity) spelling is in no way a reflection of intelligence, and sometimes(,)(take that out...it breaks the flow of the sentence) it isn(')t even detrimental to clarity. [Did] anyone ever get that e(-)mail where nearly everything was spelled wrong but it was still easily understandable(?) The point was that our brains don(')t even really process the middle letters of easily recognizable words.

Anyways, my other issue is that these same people don(')t even speak (E)nglish half the time. How in your right mind do you justify spelling errors when you yourself are a(n) (debatable, but I say "L33t" starts with a consonant) L33t haxor. I mean(,) what the %$#@??? Never should anyone have to apologize for a few spelling errors, especially when they are just trying to be helpful. The worst is when people just harp on som(e)one's poor spelling because they don(')t agree with their statements, [or] just to flame them. It[']s like "OMG Learn to spell NOOB!" Anyways(comma) I(')m done(.) (T)hanks.

Incorrect corrections bolded with italic explanation, my further corrections in brackets

Haha, you are such an asshole.

Haha I dont think I ever took the time to notice that rediculous isnt the correct spelling. I probably would have left Microsoft to fix that one for me haha. If you google it a lot of people spell it wrong....oh well. I guess that it goes back to my point that it can be helpful, especially when correction was made to be helpful. Doesnt hurt that I spelled it wrong twice either....

Not to mention that habits are easily formed and hard to break. If you get in the habit of not caring, your writing will always be atrocious and when it does matter it will that much more difficult for you to write prolifically.

We are just trying to help you...stupid. :D

I misspell words all the time. I also leave out words and and do duplicates. Its a fact of typing. Posting is not writing an essay, and minor grammar errors aren't a big deal. My stupidity comment is best illustrated by the posts of RobCur. THAT is the type of misspelling and grammar problems I am referring to that reflect complete idiocy.

Don't think that that observation has gone unnoticed by me. If anything, this place has honed my writing skills simply by correcting or noticing all the mistakes. :D

You can easily tell the difference between a typo and outright ignorance of how words are spelled. Rediculous is not a typo. Bord is not a typo when the meaning is "board" or "bored". There are many others.

Also, it WAS diffcult for me to read the paragraph quoted earlier. I had to stop and read a couple of the sentences twice to get their meaning. I'm used to reading things that are at least SOMEWHAT written well, and that was not. If you get flamed for writing like a 6 year old, don't throw a fit like a 4 year old.

Reading your typed words is the only way I get any information about you. If you don't bother to spell those words correctly you are giving others information about yourself. Since this is all the information available it is easy to use it to come to the conclusion that you are a dumba$$. If this is not important to you, fine, but if you want any respect at all you will avoid it.

Your sig sums up this thread quite nicely. Even the mods will point out how stupid you look when you use poor grammar.

"Breaks" pisses me off the most. Maybe we should find everyone who says BREAKS and remove the BRAKES from their cars.

yes i have seen it and yes it is cool

and as most people here know, i miss type/spell more things then just about anyone on this bord, and it has nothning to do with being stupid, i am a horrid typer, i was never given lessons and learned myself which is part of the issue, the other is that i try to type WAY to fast and things end up getting garbled and such, however 99% of the time the message gets across fine, so what if the appears as teh or i type woudl and not would, its not like people dont understand that its a typo

and also i just dont care, because its a freeking online message board

I agree that typos are acceptable. However, outright corruptions, such as "definately" for "definitely", are a different matter; they're moving the language in a bad direction, and make the writer seem like a complete idiot. If someone who uses "definately" had gotten proper teaching when they were younger, they'd have a better shot at success now.

I agree. This is why AT mostly consists of only english speakers. I've been to a few other forums, like futuremark, and it's a lot more culturally diverse there. But then again, they are based in finland, and AT is based in US.
But people that always use THEN over THAN annoy me. Two different words, get it right.

Content is more important than delivery most of the time. However, great content can be obscured by poor delivery; also, those who care about their content take care with its presentation.

It was a typo (and some other misspellings). I typed hastily in the first place and realized I had also misspelled ?misspelled,? and ?buffoon,? a word I have not used in a long time but which popped into my head while I was writing. I did edit it, so as to not look like one.
