Speedometer at 140mph...

please tell me it was on a dyno
Probably not, ever been that fast?

I have in a car, also been at 125 mph on a motorcycle (Honda Goldwing) for over an hour one morning on interstate 15 south in Utah. In my much younger days.

It's possible to do on public highways, not recommended or legal, but very possible. Could also be done on jackstands if you are an idiot.

That looks just about the same as when I pegged the speedometer in my '92 Mustang GT. That pic is likely notfred's dash in his Mustang as it is clearly the dash of a '87-'93 fox body Mustang.

🙂

Yes, yes it is. 🙂

Yikes! :Q:Q

Edit: It's probably blurry because he was trying to take the pic himself while actually going 140mph+...:Q😉

lol, or it could be broken 🙂

True, but the RPM's in that pic are exactly where they should be in a Mustang going that fast in 5th (OD) gear, with a Borg Warner T5 transmission, and probably an aftermarket 3:55 or 3:73 gears. 🙂

I am sure he actually did it....I can peg out my little Nissan Altima which only goes up to 120mph on the speedo.
Getting up over 100 the accuracy goes to crap....when I hit 120 on the speedo my GPS says I am only doing 113mph.
I trust the GPS more than my speedo.

I've been to about 140 before! Only for a real short time on an empty freeway.
That's when I had my friends in my 69 camaro and wanted to show them what it could do. I had about 550 horsepower in that thing. got there in no time flat.

:Q

You're just jealous that the picture is of a Ford product going this fast and not a Nissan product. :Q

I believe the picture is real. If it was fake, then the person would have just photochopped it to brag to his/her friends - not publically distributed it on the Internet. All I have to say is, if you're running this fast on an area that is not closed off and dedicated for the purpose of safely going at this speed, then you're fuggin' nuts. I don't think I've been much over 100 M.P.H. in a vehicle - with someone else driving. With myself driving, maybe 90 or 95 - that's it!

90-95! I'm embarassed to say I've only hit 101 in the maxima. Just no room and too many cops 😉 I remember that Ralisport had a photochopped pic of his se-r spec v at about 140 as well 🙂

The GPS is far more accurate than your speedometer at any speed.

How can you do 140mph on jackstands??

I don't see whats so big about hitting 140mph? I remember when the 4th gen Max came out they had a comparo test (Motortrend or C&D) and they were surpirsed the car did 140mph stock (SEs don't have limiters).

Now all the *normal* cars have the capability to hit those speeds and go higher!

How can you do 140mph on jackstands??
Easy. Just elevate the rear wheels (Mustang) with jack stands, get in the car and have at it. However, pray like hell the car doesn't vibrate too much and break away from the jack stands. :Q

In my area, most of the service stations perform emission tests. As part of the emission test, the vehicle is required to sit on "rollers" installed in the floor of the testing area. The vehicle is then secured with a tether and the vehicle is brought up to highway speeds for a few minutes until the test is complete.

If the individual with the Mustang utilized some artificial means for getting the vehicle up to 140 M.P.H. - hopefully, it wasn't truly jack stands because that would be way, way too risky to do.
