Bradruth, I have a question... since I know you are a cop. Is it true that cops have quotas to meet per month (in terms of tickets given out) and that most of them give out most of their tickets toward the end of the month? Also, any idea how high/low these quotas are?

They aren't known as quotas as a friend told me after asking this in traffic school. Their monthly performance is charted and as long as you don't drop off like crazy, its ok.

Also. Braduth, I have a question also.... Is it true that written contestations are better for fighting tickets? =P Cops get paid to go to court right? Cops don't get paid to do stupid reports? They would be more motivated to go to court than to write a report when the speeder chooses a written contestation?

I didnt read the entire thread, but was the idea that he got hit with a stop watch on a quarter mile stretch ever brought up? He could have been doing it the old fashion way, you know, to get past his radar detector.

No, the cop doesn't have to show you jack. I got pulled over a few years ago <when I was driving the sports coupe> and I knew I wasn't speeding. I asked the cop to see the equipments. He told me either sign the ticket or go to jail and he meant it. Guess which choice I took.

And not all cops have quotas. My friend doesn't give tickets at all, not part of his duties.

I don't know exactly what you're asking me. We get paid OT (min 2 hours) to go to court, but there are no written reports done for speeding tickets.

I have a question for all the ATOTers who know their way around the speeding tickets and such.

I got pulled over and ticketed for 63 in a 55 about three weeks ago, and I have a $61 fine that I planned on paying. Will I get points for this (IA) and/or will my insurance go up? I'm 19 with no moving violations or claims, not sure if thats enough information but...

I think he's talking about if you do trial by mail or whatever its called the officer has to do a written argument, based on what I read on Ticket Assassin. Not sure if its true or not.

Depends on your state and what the laws are.

In Texas where I live you can still have trial by jury, apparently alot of states dont allow that for traffic tickets which I think is wrong.

Also in my state the wording of the law is so that going faster than the speed limit is not a crime, the crime is driving faster that is reasonable, but the fact that you are going faster than the speed limit can be used as evidence of unreasonable speed.

We don't do trial by mail here. If you want to fight it in court you have to show up in court.

Well is there something similar to a quota now that is basically a quota for all intents and purposes? For instance, does someone review your 'numbers' and give you a hard time about it if they aren't high enough? This is for officers with that in their duties of course, Im sure not every officer does that.

Stats are tracked, but they're only used for evaluation in a very general fashion. You can tell who's putting in work and who isn't without looking at the stats.

Interesting, I also got stopped twice on the way back from Myrtle Beach to boston last week ,once in NC. and again in VA. not that much over the limit (10mph or so over ), maybe it was the bright red MA. plate,maybe the rental car ?

And man both were hard ass`s basically they both told me to go to court on A day and time in Sept.and Oct.respectly.
Now ,what will happen when I don`t show up,will those states reciprocate and notify my Massachusetts registry and my insurance co.? and thus affect my points (now at the lowest possible rate here: a step 9 )or do they die in those states? until I go back and get pulled over again. and they arrest me (I don`t plan on driving back again).
