Speeding Ticket :( What is the cost per mile over?

I was too excited going downhill w/ my car and I got pulled over by a motorcycle police officer, I knew I was wrong.

I was going 60 at a 45, the police officer was really nice cuz he knew I didn't do this sort of thing often! But nevertheless... I got the ticket... he cited me at 60 on a 50 though so he saved me 5 miles...

I was in the LA County/Orange County area (near CHINO HILLS) is there a site online or does anybody know what the cost per mile over the limit is ?? I'm just curious as to what I am going to pay.

Also--I do NOT want this on my record, will the courts in this area allow for traffic school?

I've never seen a speeding ticket that was priced per mile over the limit. It's usually a flat rate for 1-20mph over.

Hehe, but the officer said that he'd site me going on a 50MPH zone instead of 45 MPH (the zone was 45MPH Speed limit)... and finished off by saying--so that will save you some money

Nah, they're mostly priced per mile over, with a base fee. Usually like $5/mile with a $70 base fee around here.. no clue about The OC.

It probably drops you to a less severe category of ticket; either in terms of fine or effect on driving record.

I'd guess it's a significant difference; but you need to find out how demerit points or whatever system is used where you got the ticket works.

you're probably looking at around $200 for the ticket.

for traffic school, if you haven't taken it in the past 18 months then you can go.

Every ticket I've seen was priced per mile over. It's going to be a state thing, so I can't speak for any state other than my own.

In Minnesota and Arizona it is a flat rate as long as you are less than 20mph over.

According to that, your first offense in CA is $100. Probably have to tack on court fees to that too.

That'd be the big difference. 1-10 miles over is one category, and i think 10-20 is another (difference of I think 2 pts on your license, depending on state?)

Look at the bright side, it's only an infraction, most they can fine you is $250. It's the damn admin fees that get you.

Fine will probably be less than $200, plus the costs of traffic school should you decide to do it. I had a ticket for 30 over in a 45 (country/backroads, darn motorcylce cops), and my ticket was $190, judge knocked it down to $100 plus traffic school. You can go to traffic school as long as you haven't gone in the past 12 months and the judge lets you.

You will get a letter in the mail and it will have the fine on it.

In most places fines go up as the speed goes up. But since radars and spedometers aren't very accurate, most places go by range instead of by mile per hour over the limit. Nebraska for example Thus the faster you go, the higher the fine. Joshsquall and the rest are all semi-correct.

Depends on where you are, really. Here in NY, the cost is determined by $ per mile over with a flat rate as discussed above, but thats just the maximum they can charge.

I had gotten a BS ticket for 47 in a 30 when I wasn't even going the speed limit yet, and that ticket ended up being a whopping $70 with the state court charges factored in. Go and talk to the judge, they are usually reasonable people from my experiance
