<< I'm bitter about the fact that people routinely speed and don't care about the consequences. Then, when they get caught, they complain about how unfair it is and how they shouldn't have to get points taken off their record. >>

Speeding is so common that getting a speeding ticket is more out of bad luck than anything else. It is a law that is so utterly ignored and so universally unenforcable that those who get slapped with a ticket justifiably don't want it on their record. Why pay the price when all you did was do something that basically considered normal? And if it's just a sole speeding ticket (i.e. not part of an accident report) you shouldn't have to pay it: you did not commit a crime and did not injure anybody else. One person could speed all their life and never get a ticket and another person may get a ticket each year just because that's the way the dice fell.

And if you say I am condoning lawlessness, I'm just stating the facts. Americans vote with their right foot and reject unrealistic speed limits. In some locales the posted speeds are justifiable...but many other places speeds are dictated by political manuevers and third-party influences than sound engineering methods. At least I know when to speed and when not to.

<< If you were driving with traffic, did everyone else get a ticket too? >>

unless the guy was some trained robot super-cop, i'm pretty sure he couldn't pull everyone over, you self-righteous, Maude Flanders wannabe. The fact is, when traffic rolls at a certain speed, it is SAFER to go with the flow. It's actually a statistical fact that most accident on the highway especially occur because of a driver going at a different speed than the general FLOW of traffic, whether it be way too fast or too slow believe it or not. I don't feel like looking up the stats to prove this, so I'll just leave it at that.

I fully concur with mithrandir2001's post. Fine, I was the one that got pulled over even though everyone else was speeding to. I will pay the fine. I should not have to continually suffer on my insurance because of this extremely minor infraction.

<< I got written up for going 48 in a 30.

First off, there was NO WAY I was going 48. I've driven the road many times and it curves too much to be going that fast. I was definitely doing about 40, though.

The cop checked off both "radar" AND "estimate" on the reason for the ticket.... this making no sense to me, and I truly don't think he was radaring at all.

I think I may request a court date.

I had a lawyer tell me once to request to see the radar when the cop tells you that they clocked you at XX speed. Apparently something to do with them having to leave the speed on the display or something. A couple of years later I was pulled over in a speed trap (that I saw in advance!) and the cop told me he'd clocked me at something like 62 in a 40. I had set my cruise control at 40 exactly and told him so. I then asked him to show me in his car the display that said I was doing 62 (I had been the only vehicle on the road). He carried on for a little bit about me needing to show more respect for the law, told me not to be such a wiseass & then let me go - no ticket. It was harassment, plain & simple.

take a hearing, but you won't get off because you haven't gotten a ticket in 3 years lol
