speeding ticket defense

Ok, I have a weird problem.

For the first time in my life, I have been given a ticket for speeding without speeding. If this was a valid ticket I would eat it. But its not.

I was driving down a road by my house, going over a bridge, this road has a speed limit of 45 miles an hour. But about 3 blocks after the bridge it drops to 30. Now I know this, and I know cops wait there so I always do the speed limit on this road. But this time, the cop was on the other side of the bridge, he pulled out, got behind me and gave me a ticket 1 block from the speed limit 30 sign for doing 45 in a 30. Now I tried to argue with him and be polite, but I found out quickly it was better to keep my mouth shut.

Now here's the problem. How do I prove to the court that I was clocked before the speed limit 30 sign. His ticket has me at the exact intersection the speed limit changes, when that is absolutly not true. I do have one witness with me in the car. Any suggestions on how to fight this?

Also, over the last week I have seen at least 4 more people pulled over at this same place. Looks like a speed trap to me.

Just see if it'll get dismissed due to lack of evidence. Maybe take a few pictures of the 45mph sign and the 30 mph sign.

Take it to court with the witness. Be prepared with diagrams and pictures, and the witness actually personally present. Dress up.

No. Court = lose. You doa written contestation because when you do a report, a cop has to do a report too. Cops get paid to go to court. They dont get paid to write a report to argue against you. Use googlemaps or MSN or something to show diagrams, and do a written report. You could surely write better than a cop right? =P

Here in florida, their laser guns have a distance from, as well as, speed indicator on the gun. So, when setting up in traps at school zones, they set up near to, or at the end of the school zone, then laser the school zone sign and are supposed to write this value down in their log book. The cops laser people coming into the school zone and determine if they are actually in be comparing your distance from them to the school zone sign distance. If taken to court, they have to prove that you were in the school zone by presenting these measurements. If they cannot, the ticket is dismissed. I had a lawyer take my school zone ticket to court and I got out scott free due to the officer not writing down how far he was from the sign. If the guns are the same in your state, it may be difficult for the police officer to prove you were in the 30 mph zone. Court does NOT mean you lose every time. I have went to court 3 times this year, and won every time. Having a lawyer helps dramatically.

In many states there is a 500 foot "grace period." Him placing you right at the sign could work in your favor.

Well court doesn't mean lose but I meant that it's sometimes really hard cuz it's your word against the cop's. A lot of times you're counting on the fact that the cop doesn't show up to court so you get the auto win.

1 block from the sign might be in the 30mph zone according to the law. It depends exactly what your laws say.

BINGO. Finally someone besides me who knows what the fvck is going on.

And even if the ticket WAS valid, you'd be a fool not to fight it.

Traffic cops are the anal lube patrol. If you pay your ticket without fighting it, you might as well ask for a broomstick on your way out of court.

I'm going to have to read up on written contestation.

I should of stated this in the post, this is in Indiana.

Guess its time to do some more homework. I will fight this as far as the law will allow. I'd even rather pay a lawyer then give my money up to the county for no reason.
