I like going fast, but I also don't like the gas bill. I'm not a saint so I have no problem admitting all the stupids things I've done. I've gone 160mph, scary on 2 wheels. 140mph in a car is just like floating with the right vehicle, its fun. I've run about 100mph in my truck with large tires, neat sound but way too much drifting on the road from the sidewalls.

To me it's more fun to put my speed to the test on a road course being at the edge of control.

Lately I've been in slow mode since I am commuting around 600-700miles a week

Why do I feel the urge to do 100 in a 65 ? It's just speed.

Why do people like ice-cream, it's just sugar and milk right? It awakens your senses.

Your routine is interrupted by something you have to focus on more heavily instead of getting bored and drifting into other thoughts, something you control that gives you a liberating mobility.

Depending on the car and road conditions, some people and some cars can travel at higher speed at the same relative safety, but regularly doing 100 in a 65 might also be a death wish or a sign you feel your life is too out of control, and a car is the one thing you have more control over. Either that or you're in a crazy hurry due to poor scheduling skills. Be careful @ 100, no matter how good you might drive that doesn't mean everyone else won't cause an accident and ultimately at that speed you have less time to react and anyone's mistake is a lot more devastating.

I go 5 over and I'm happy with that. I'm not so happy when someone's going 5 under in a 45 ( or higher ) zone and yet is going 35+ in a 25 zone! Grr that person was really pissing me off last night. I was so happy once I hit a passing zone, and then the bastard tried to keep up with me! :|

Before I got my new car, I sped to keep from boredom. Now I speed for excitement. It's a huge letdown when I realize I'm that much over and have to let off and cruise again. The acceleration w/handling is the most fun.

Even economy cars go well over 100mph today. It's a joke on all of us.

Hey come make out with my hot sister oh yeah if you screw her you're getting finned $300.

These kinds of self control are not normal.

Considering I got rear-ended a few months ago and almost got rear-ended today because I had the audacity to stop at a light which had just changed red, yeah, I speed. I am MUCH more confident in my ability not to hit the stuff in front of me than I am in the skills of the drivers behind me. I like to be moving slightly faster than most of the traffic, but always with a few faster cars in the immediate area. I monitor traffic in every direction to make sure that I'm not blocking people behind me, cutting people off when I merge, or tailgating. A successful trip for me is one where I'm able to maintain a constant speed by carefully monitoring traffic and using the gaps to pass people without making anyone else slow down or speed up to avoid me (or even getting nervous at a close approach). It becomes a bit of a skill and observation game for me...I also like to predict which cars will merge/turn before they actually do so.

Now when I'm on that nice curvy road in the middle of nowhere that I know...I like to open up my little red sports car and master the corners.

I dont weave much and most of the time i just cruise but whenever im on the highway it has to be 80. Limit is 65-70. I have no idea why i always keep it at 80, everything under just seems too slow and higher seems too fast.

QFT. There are plenty of times i speed, but I wouldn't weave through traffic. Speeding can be safe, generally weaving is not nearly as safe. Of coarse, i'm a mild speeder, not a maniac like some.

I think the idea is if you have to use your brakes, you suck at speeding. Too many times I see idiots gas it and change lanes, just to brake 2 seconds later cause there was nowhere for him to go after that.

I don't do it for the fact that it only sometimes get you ahead of the game. I've driven my fair share of miles commuting to school/work of the years. I've had multiple people ride my ass while I was doing 5-10 OVER the speed limit.

There was one in particular, just going nuts, swerving and speeding up/slowing down over and over. He finally got around a large group of cars, and flicked me off in the process, and was gone. He was out of sight ahead of me. I get on the off ramp, and low and behold, there this guy is. Sitting at a red light. I smiled the biggest smile I have in ages, and waved enthusiastically. Lol, he was NOT happy. Just started staring straight ahead. Gunned it at the green light, got stuck at the next one being red. I smiled again as I passed him since I was taking a right at that particular light. Haha, better luck next time buddy.

Granted, this scenario played out perfectly for me. He very well could have hit green lights and been gone. My point is that it's hit and miss. Why risk driving like an idiot to MAYBE save 5-10 minutes?

You are lucky that people drive near the speed limit over there. Over here SPEED KILLS!, and I think that mentality has gotten into a lot of stupid peoples heads. There seems to be an endemic of people driving 20+ mph under the limit. Some even driving under the limit in the overtaking lane, if you aren't overtaking you are in the wrong lane (you get people driving at 10 under the limit hogging the lane to get past the people driving at 20 under it). Of course these people are quite happy to drive at 40 in a 20-30 limit.

Idiots.

You speed because you can. It's that simple! ;)

This is why, even at the point in life where I could probably swing a nice sports car, I abstain from doing so. I could drive a Corvette, but I'd almost guarantee I'd be selling it within a year, just in order to drop my insurance rates!!

i never weave in and out of traffic thats just stupid, and dangerous....i'll pass people when im in the fast lane, but if there's someone going slow in the fast lane and pacing someone in the slow lane i'll get right on there ass and turn my brights on until they move.

the only time i've eve went all out in cars, is when
A. i was young and stupid, i used road race my car around the neighborhood, drifting around corners and everything

b. nowdays when im benchmarking, maxed out at a little over 150mp (my speedo ends at 150mph) i've pegged it, and had about 1000rpm of usable powerband left...so maybe 160mph. this was done at 3am, me being the only car on the road, on a long long straight away on a 2 lane divided highway
