hey ... in the program speedfan.. is LOCAL TEMP the cpu temperature or is REMOTE temp the cpu temperature?e

What version of it do you have? On mine, it shows Temp, Temp1, Temp2, and Temp3. I've pretty much figured out the one labled just 'Temp' is for the CPU, but I'm not sure what the other 3 are.

it could be for anything. you'd just have to use some kind of common sense.

on one computer i had temp2 cpu and temp1 mobo temp and temp3 psu temp.

on another they're all switched around

For me temp2 is the cpu and temp1 is mobo just like AkumaX.

The number of sensors detectible might be equal to or less than the number of on-board fan plugs.

A motherboard "chipset and drivers" disk should have monitoring software provided by the board manufacturer. Such a software would likely show the temperatures with the proper label, since the manufacturer embedded the sensors in the processor and in the first place.

Or, power one fan with the CPU and then add each fan alone, leaving the CPU fan powered. Make sure you're powered down and PSU switched off when you swap wires to the motherboard, and ground yourself.

Speedfan and MBM5 simply detect and report the sensors on the motherboard, because it's more convenient for them to gather the fan sensor readings as they are detected. Some sensors are identically named but assigned to different parts of the motherboard or processor. Those programs leave it up to you to know your fan speeds, test the variable rheostat speeds, and label the sensor data-sets.
