I want to change my fan speeds for when Im sleeping, the only tasks that would be running is downloading things, and running mp3 converters. Nothing major will be running. SpeedFan will not give me the opportunity to turn anything down. I have my intake, exhaust and CPU fan plugged into the mobo. Is there something I am missing? My mobo isnt right for it? Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P. Exhaust is running 1900rpm, intake running 1200rpm...would like to cut them both by half. CPU fan I dont think would make much noise.

Again, I will change out my settings myself, will remember to, or if there is a way I can have it do it auto that would be good, but I would like the fans to run a tad quiter at night. Its fine during the day but Im a light sleeper, I need no noise.

Thanks!

You will have to fiddle with the settings/plugins in SpeedFan. Also, your board may not support changing fan speeds on all the headers.

There should be a setting somewhere in your BIOS for automatic fan speed control. I have a Gigabyte board and just let the BIOS manage my fan speed on the CPU, seems to work pretty well. I have my case fans set up to run at a constant speed, though.

But If you want to manually control RPM, or let SpeedFan automatically control it, you'll need to change some settings. Click on Configure in SpeedFan, then go to the Advanced tab. Select the Super IO chip for your motherboard from the drop-down menu, then select the PWM channel you want to control and switch it from SmartGuardian to software controlled. Click OK to save the settings, and now you should be able to control the fan with the software.

Only caveat is, I don't know if all the fan headers on your Gigabyte board have fan control. For some boards, fan control is only available on one or two headers. Just try enabling software control for all your fans in SpeedFan and see how many work.

Okay, it lets me do that, but then, I guess Im a total newb, where does it give me the option to turn the fans down? I see the speed thing, but I dont want the CPU fan to turn down, just the intake/exhaust.

On the main window that displays your temps and voltages, there should be a few speed selectors (Speed01, Speed02, etc.). These are for the fans. You can either enter a number between 0 and 100, or use the up and down buttons to adjust fan speed by 5% increments. You'll just have to experiment with them and figure out which is your CPU fan, intake, and exhaust. Adjust the speed on one and observe which fan it effects.

I tested it on my Gigabyte 785G, and it looks like only two of the three mobo fan headers support speed adjustment. I'd assume it's the same with your board, but try it out and see what works.
