Speedfan Reported Temps

I'm running a E8400 at stock speeds with an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 and AS5.

Been to busy to look into it much but I went and downloaded SpeedFan 4.35 today and it's showing the following:

Core 0: 53C
Core 1: 53C
AUX: 22C
SYSTEM: 34C
CPU: 25C

How come the core temps are 30C higher than the CPU temp? What does that even mean? Is it running too hot or is there something I'm missing?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Just downloaded that and it's showing both cores at 47C.

I'm guessing that the CPU temp on the Speedfan is some sort of external sensor that is almost unrelated to the actual CPU?

Seems like 47-53C is much too high for a CPU running with a decent cooling setup at stock speeds?
