Posted a thread a while back about wanting a new car. Thought I wanted a crossover, but after doing research I found that one of the three listed in the subject will be best for me. Test drove all but the WRX because they are hard to come by around here apparently. If you could choose to own one, based on price, comfort, reliability, looks, MPG and speed, what would you choose?? Right now I have an impreza, so I am biased to the WRX even tho I haven't driven it yet. Next would be the GTI.

I would pick Subaru then GTi.

Though it would almost be a coin flip.

where do you live? do you need AWD? or just want it for fun?

the gti is more comfortable and gets better mileage than the speed3, but the speed3 is more raw/fun/whatever

gti is probably your best bet for the combination

in for massive argument about dsg vs manual

I like the 2012 Ford Focus hatchback personally and the upcoming Focus ST should be quite a good performer too.

WRX will sport-fvck either of them at the lights and twisties, etc. who cares.

this. And with mods the gap just grows. Even with huge slicks up front, FWD is severely limiting when the power grows to the amounts any of these cars are capable of after doing some upgrades.

+1 to the Subaru. I've had an '07 STi that I put a rotated GT35R at maybe 1000 miles old. Its 3 years later and the stock bottom end is STILL running strong. Thinking about switching to ViPEC in the next month - any car that can take double the hp daily, summer/winter for 3 years is a good bet.

GTI is "nice" but slow compared to the competition. I'm not a fan of the new Mazda styling so my nod goes to the WRX.

The WRX is only made in Japan which is why they are hard to come by still right now...

With that being said, my '11 WRX has 5000 miles on it and I love it.
I got rid of an 330i ZHP to get this car and do not regret it at all.

slaloms - don't think that AWD makes you king automatically

for fairness, I voted for a gti because it's going to be the most comfortable and economical

insideline:
2011 wrx: 68.8mph
2010 speed3: 72.4mph
2010 gti: 65.5mph

WRX. The Speed3 is silly fun, but traction FTW. I'm not too familiar with VW's in general.

GTI has the best interior and gas mileage, feels like a small luxury car.
WRX has the best performance and handling.
MS3 doesn't really do it for me, but performance is great for the price.

Depends what you're after, but I bought a GTI, so I'll vote for that. Maybe take a look at 2008 R32?

Forgot that 2008 R32 is DSG only... If you want manual, there's the Golf R coming early 2012. (AWD, 265hp 2.0T...)

which will also start out at $33K. A bit too much money for that car IMO. And this is coming from a MkIV GTI VR6 owner who lusts over the MkIV R32
