Speed up connection?

What is the best way I can speed up my connection. I have cable internet with 8Mbps service. I have an evga 680i board with 2 lan ports. I have a motorola modem and an linksys router. wrt300n. If there is anymore information required just tell me. thx in advance
 
sorry bout that they don't have any better I was just curious if there was a way that I coud increase the speed ? even just a little
 
I'm not sure what it is called but does power cycleing really improve anything. I've always been told by the cable company to do that every so often.
 
You'll never get more than 8Mbps if that is all you pay for.

Do you live in a TWC market with FiOS? If so, that's what you should be looking at. They offer 20Mbps Internet with 5Mbps upstream for the same price as TWC's 8Mbps plan.
 
You latency's are out of your control once it leaves your home network. You either need to switch to FIOS for that direct optical link, or complain to your current ISP. Chances of your ISP caring unless it's >150 are slim to none. ISP's have minimum speeds and latency's that they'll agree to meet, unfortunately these speeds aren't very close to what would be optimal for gaming and such. What are you current pings to major sites like google, yahoo, etc..?
 
its not the ping that takes long the actual website in the browser takes forever. yes i do remember i had that until a few years ago
 
Websites are subject to more variables than just connection speed. The problem could be the server, and also your browser. I don't have a link, but if you google "browser speed tweaks" or something along those lines you should come up with a few suggestions.
 
If you have that fast of internet, your websites should load up almost instantly. My finger is pointing at your router. Try going directly to the cable modem from your PC, power cycling your cable modem and then restarting your computer, then try out the speed. If it load up quickly, you need a new router. Stay away from linksys crap. Take a look at newegg for a buffalo WHR-54GS or WHR-HP-G54. Zyxel's seem to work pretty well too but I've installed about 6 buffalos and haven't had any problems or complaints whatsoever.
 
could also be slow DNS lookups. Try using 4.2.2.1 as your primary DNS and see if it is faster that way. Is your DNS currently your "router"? (Think DLink and Belkin are this way, iirc)
