This was auctioned on *bay a few months back to raise money for some charity. If I remember correctly it went for over $200,000.00.
... I couldn't convince my wife to sell the house.

I had the Speed Racer PC game for my computer. The intro played the Speed Racer song which was the best part of the game. It was pretty fun adding all the various 'james bond' devices to the car. Surprised they never actually made a realistic Mach 5 before. I liked the saw blades that came out from the front of the car. Talk about a way to clear traffic! Does anyone remember all the other gadgets from the steering wheel? Were these all of them?

1) Car can jump
2) Saw blades
3) Remote control bird (How stupid!)
4) Canopy for underwater and bulletproof
5) Special Traction Tires (Not Firestones)

The UPN TV show Viper had a remote controlled "bird" with the highly-modified Dodge Viper. The bird actually helped the main character a few times for reconnaissance and to help free him from capture.

Wangel, here is some info for you:

For most viewers the real star of the show was the car itself, for the Special Formula Mach 5 was every young boy's dream. The car was equipped with a variety of functions, all of which could be activated by the buttons on the steering wheel. The "A" button set off the jet engines for that extra burst of speed, while button ?B? controlled the extra-grip tires. When button ?C? was pushed, buzz saws would appear that could cut through any trees that happened to block the vehicle?s path. The most elaborate button was "F," which would turn the car into an underwater vehicle, complete with oxygen tanks and a periscope. The supercar had several other features as well, including a handy jumping capability and a remote controlled bird that flew out of the front hood. To the delight of many viewers, each episode managed to feature at least one of the Mach 5?s extraordinary features during the exciting racing scenes.

Well, it can go underwater -- you'd just have a hard time getting it back on the surface:)

Anyone know where I can find $20 off coupon off the purchase price, and maybe I'll just buy this pig...

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Chim-Chim and his hilarious stowaway antics. Or Spridel... Spridel... what a great name.

To this day, Speed's poorly dubbed "Ohhhh..." of consternation is part of my lexicon, along with "D'oh!" and "happy, happy, joy, joy..." (to mix cartoon favorites).

damn it! If only the dot.com i"m working for would go IPO I'd get one!!! this would be waaaaay sweet, can you imagine the looks you'd get?? My god you couldn't go anywhere without people staring, you'd draw a crowd at Wal-Mart!

"Viper? what viper?" Nobody sees the viper, they're starting at your Mach 5! :) I can't imagine a better chick magnet, i mean what can possibly say "i've got billions" better than a car modeled off a TV show?

hehe, well maybe they won't be all sold out by the time we go IPO

If it came with the real traction tires that made it climb up 90" hills and the jack system that made it jump over trains and other cars I would buy it without a dought. I would also want to race Racer X The long lost brother of speed.
