Speed limits too slow, cops too tight

I'm up here in the frozen wasteland in Toronto, so basicaly everybody does 130kph on the highways (in a 100kph zone), sometimes faster.
That's like 75mph

Now when I go down to visit my friends down in Buffalo, I have to drive @ like 95kph, and I'll be really pushing it doing 105kph (almost 65)

I know the toll roads are 65mph, but that's still only 115kph.

Lousy NY slow roads.
Damm I wish I lived close to montana 🙂

woodie1 - you are correct. Montana is now 75MPH.

Speeding really is a subjective term. I live in Iowa, and above us Minnesota has a 70 MPH interstate speed limit, to northwest South Dakota has a 75 MPH speed limit, and directly west nebraska has a 75MPH interstate speed limit.

It really pisses me off when the state troopers from Iowa just sit on the otherside of the border and nail people who forget to set the cruise back.

It's not like there's a huge difference in road conditions. Hell, if it wasn't for the "welcome to Iowa sign" you wouldn't have even known you had crossed the border.

Like I said, speeding is just a subjective term.

Here in Florida it is 70MPH. If the weather is good you can drive 5-10 over if traffic permits. Depends on the officer too.

Speeding is a subjective term. I live in Canada as well and where I live the highway speed is anywhere from 80 - 100 Km/h depending on the highway (about 50 - 60 mph).

What dictates how fast I drive is the road conditions. If there is relatively light traffic and it's a clear sunny day then I'll go 10 - 15 km/h over the limit, maybe more. Controlling a car at high speeds is not difficult. If I'm in the prarries, and not in a city, then the only speed limit I have is that of my car!!

If it's rush hour or really bad weather then I'll drive the speed limit or less.

And like woodie1 said it depends on the officer.

But what really pisses me off is photo radar!!!! :|:|:|

Yup, 65MPH on (most) highways and the interstates.

65mph here in Oregon on most highways and interstates. It used to be 55.

I think the speed limits should change dynamically with weather and road conditions, and number of cars. 😉

that's what they do in more practical countries, that are open to new ideas. the autobahn in germany has electronic signs over the road every so many miles. the speed limit is posted there, and it's always changing based on traffic patterns.

I find US interstates to be patrolled really well, moreso than the new electronic toll highway we got here in Toronto...and ppl are complaining here! :\

vi_edit, I whole heartedly agree with you on the Nebraska/Iowa border thing! I got a &quot;verbal warning&quot; from a cop going across the Missouri into Council Bluffs from Omaha where I live (speaking of which, where in Iowa are you from?) because I didn't rachet back the ol' cruise control. The cop let me off after he finished laughing his ass off at the sticker in my window which reads:


Faster than a speeding ticket!


And my parents thought that would get me in trouble, not out of it!

raptor13, I'm about 4 hours down I-80 in Cedar Rapids. In fact, I said what I did because I saw it happening just last wednesday as I made my way back from Omaha.

I was working with the sys-admin at a partner company. We were trying to implement a VPN between our networks. I have to do quite a bit of traveling back and forth between CR and Omaha.
