Speed Limits exist only for municipal revenue

lol at all the whiners in this thread about getting tickets while speeding. Waahh wahh.

You broke the law, you pay the penalty. In this kind of thing, it is a fine, and usually an insurance increase after a couple of them within a certain amount of time of each other. Don't like it? Don't speed.

I think I have disappointed a few cops before - I drive a Camaro, so naturally I'm a little more of a target for them. Saw one see me, snap his radar gun right at me, and then droop his shoulders like he was sighing since I wasn't speeding 😛

The law is always right, eh?

Ok, many of us who have been driving for a few years have been at one time or another "victimized" or somehow unfairly ticketed by a PO. It's also true that some speed limits are set up to catch people for the purpose of tickets and it's also true that some small towns have created police departments exclusively as a revenue generating mechanism.

However, most speed limits are there for a purpose and you know the rules which you agree to obey as part of having the privilege to drive. Most cops will treat you fairly unless you are mouthing off to them. Whether you feel this is just and correct is wholly irrelevant, it is what it is and we all play the same game. As many people complain about on these forums everyday, the majority of people on the road are distracted, idiots, running not 100% completely safe vehicles - or some combination of all three. You may feel that Cherry Lane should have a 60mph limit instead of 45mph but the conditions do not allow it for one reason or the other.

Generally speaking if you are tagged doing 10 over you're going to get pulled, you may or may not get a ticket. If I get hit doing 15 over then I fully expect to be ticketed for speeding. The only exception to this rule is on the interstate, where 15 over seems to the line for getting pulled in my area, so 80 in a 70 is ok.

You want to post a link to that info??? I find that just a little hard to believe.

philly red light cameras are notorious for this. I got nailed and i went through the second it turned green to yellow.

it wouldn't be a bad idea if the city was at least fucking honest about it. just makes me think cops and municipalities are all a bunch of scumbags that put profit in front of real safety.

Nope. The reason they don't allow it is because it would cut into the revenue generated from ticketing you. Do people not read the article?

It's OK to stereotype that way because the good guys don't speak up.

Yep. And the amazing part is they'll still be out there chasing down armed robbers, getting shot at, getting attacked by drunks, etc., doing their jobs while people whine and bitch about them.

Uh no they won't. They're out there TICKETING people. Who does real police work any more?

Alright, I'll bite to appease you as I don't think anyone else has yet. Whats your big deal with police officers? You've made it clear in a number of threads you have issues with them, so since this thread isn't going anywhere might as well let you get it out for once.

See thread title. Read Article. I do not hold hands unless I know you first.

Ok, and? All that article is saying is that these towns and communities are too lazy and haven't spent the money to correctly verify the speed limits. Michigan/Detroit is incredibly broke so that doesn't surprise me. Police officers don't determine what the law will be, and that obviously includes the speed limits. Sure they may not be appropriate but thats not the cops fault there. If you get pulled over there then it's your own fault and you have a right to fight it. If you fight it, it might just get changed.

Ticketing people is part of an officers job. May be over emphasized in some places but thats just the way it is. It's a necessary role to have. Large discrepancies in speed are very dangerous for anyone on the same road. Thus the need to keep people within a certain range of speeds.

Reading comprehension is a prerequisite.

I'm done responding. It's pretty clear you never wanted any type of discussion, and your ridiculous evasions simply prove it. Your ridiculous standpoint on police is pretty clear too. I certainly hope you NEVER have need of a policeman or policewoman in your life. The irony is, they'll still come save your ass no matter how you act.

Like I said before, if you don't like tickets, get a good detector and a laser jammer.

Getting high-beams flashed at me during my morning commute is like a badge of honor.

When's the last time you were ticketed for 66 in a 65?

67 in a 65 close enough? He just wrote 80 on the ticket, because that way it sticks.

I got a ticket while going 35 in a 40 once. "Moving too slow." I was in front of a fucking catholic school.

You want more stories? How about the 10+ times I've been illegally searched? Go back to acting like cops don't pull this shit every fucking day.

Meh, only recent time I needed the police was when a chick rear ended me in stopped traffic on the freeway during rush hour, badly damaging her car. It was in my company truck, and they require a police report. Called the CHP and they told me they will only respond if there is an injury these days due to activity.

Yet they have plenty of time to issue citations during rush hour, saw two people pulled over at different spots getting written up today.

I don't. *shrug*

Go back to thinking all cops are pricks. It seems to work well for you. 🙄
