Speed Limit. What do you think it should be.

I think 75 works well on the interstate... I just wish it was consistent everywhere... I hate running into a 55 after driving 70-75 for a while....

75 and your IQ should be scanned before getting into a car. Stupid people shouldn't drive.

Keep the speed limit where it's at until we start making testing for a drivers license and renewal a hell of a lot harder.

The German autobahn has statistically many less accidents than any American expressway. It has no speed limit. I think we should do the same.

You cannot compare American roadways to German roadways. In Germany it is treated as a privilege to drive, licenses are quite expensive ($800+), drivers in general are head and shoulders above American drivers, and what is required to obtain a license is much, much more extensive.

CORRECT! The roads are better maintained, cars are better kept, driver skill is required to actually get a license, let alone some of the crazy laws they have there. There are sensors underneath the road that gauge how far you are behind another car with cameras above. If you taligate, you are captured and sent a ticket.

Meaning no soccer moms with SUVs talking on the cell phone, and fixing their lipstick trying to back up and hit your car, right? ;)

You forget shes also steering the car with her knee, is trying to watch the movie on the DVD screen, and is being bumped into by the 10 year olds in the seats behind her, all while dancing along to the music on the radio.

You live in LI, so you completely understand. These women are driving their Escalades/Denalis/Sequoias, and really don't give a sh!t about anybody else.

Hey BTW, how was your first semester at UMD College Park?

UMCP was actually a really good time this semester. At first I didn't like it and wanted to transfer (even made a thread about it on AT), but as I spent more time there things started going really well and I'm looking forward to the spring. Made a couple of really good friends and a bunch of other friends. I also switched out of my double-sized triple (read: jail cell) into a regular double. So all in all I'm happy with my decision.

There should not be a speed limit, except as determined by unfortunately not-so-common sense.

There actually are speed limits in many areas, and they automatically adjust for traffic conditions.

75 for interstates, 65 for lesser highways seems good here. When limited access highways drop to 45 mph, that's ridiculous.

Yeah, then we could fire all the state police officers who like to setup speed traps to catch speeders. This would result in additional revenue for the states. :)

I finished a one-day drive a few days ago between south Florida and Northern Virginia (985 miles). Most of I-95 had a speed limit of 70 along the way. I kept the car between 70 and 75 and it was a comfortable, safe speed that worked well.
