I traveled by vehicles to Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and I never saw speed signs like that.

whats the point of those signs? why not just use a sign that ends in 0 or 5? seems like a waste of money to make different signs like that.
A friend in law enforcement told me it was done to "GRAB" motorist attention.
This, after I asked about the 23mph sign near me.
I have heard the same.
It will make you watch your speed more closely. It is usually just a few MPH below where you just came from, so you are more likely to be careful.

IMO, it just makes the people stare at the speedometer and not watch the road.

Also, my old apartment complex had a 13 MPH sign... but some drunk college kid took it and still has it in his closet to this day. :)

I have seen a few, usually much lower limits like 9mph and 14mph.

In Florida they can't give you a fine for 1mph over, but they can write tickets. These places are usually near schools or with heavy pedestrian traffic. There are usually officers steadily pulling people over.

i dont beleive thats real

Oh its real. Would you like to see the other shot I took of it with different cars going past, and slightly off angle? I wouldnt make this up, its not what I do.

2nd shot take of the sign.

Both shots taken with my new Sanyo Xacti C5 video/photo camera.

that doesn't really prove anything. you could have easily taken 2 photos and photoshopped both, just needing to edit the sign...but hopefully you wouldn't do that

omg are you serious, what do I gain from photo chopping a speed limit sign? And people think I have too much time on my hands

guy's just one of the many asshats that simply do not believe anything here is real.

If I had a private road I'd make a speed limit sign that says pi^2*sqrt100. Watch people be confused unless they can figure out that the speed limits a bit over 90.

You are assuming you'd have guests.

I know of a speed limit sign in Chicago that says 6mph.

Some of them seem silly, but the one I'm referring to is for a large transit bus depot. Maybe there's something about those bus engines that makes 6mph ideal for slow movement. Maybe that's the fastest they can go without being too loud for the residential zone.

CORRECT: the unusual speed signs are to grab your attention. Most are found in parking areas at schools and businesses.

I finally remembered to take my camera with me yesterday as I took my son to the park. Thought Id show everyone, who may never of seen a sign not ending in a 5 or 0, what it actually looks like.

Kinda weird, and has always keep me looking at my speed going down them streets for its near the court house and cops are everywhere.

Post real ones you know of!

31 MPH on a road like that  What a stupid limit!

Why should 0 or 5 be any more significant than 1?

I'm going to venture a guess and say that there was probably some stupid meeting where the residents thought 35 was too fast and the frequent drivers of the road said 30 was too slow, so to shut them up they made it something dumb like that, and no one could stop laughing long enough to object.
