Speed Limit Enforced by Aircraft Stories?

I did, for going 6 over in BFE Oklahoma 😕 they had a bunch of cops and a couple of pulled over cars. I only got a warning but they probably made a lot of money that day. That's the only time I have ever seen something like that before.

I've seen it being done but never got busted for it. You could see an airplane or helicopter in the area and very many police cars farther down the road pulling people over left and right.

They normally time you between landmarks or lines on the road to determine speed.
 
There is a huge trap on the way to Pismo Beach from SF, about half way through the trip. You can often see 4-5 CHP cars lined up at the end of the trap, if you were speeding and the plane called it in, you are toast.

I have no clue about how often it's enforced, but I doubt they do it very often. I tend to think they rely on the fact that freeways make great visual reference points for private pilots, so you end up with a proportionally larger number of small aircraft over freeways.

Send up a spotter aircraft once in a while to bust speeders and generate a little bit of legitimacy, and you've got yourself a cheap speeding deterrent.
 
They also use real time sensors to see where people are speeding. Ever see maps that show the live freeway speeds? If there is a "hot" spot, you can bet the CHP will be in that area.

You are clocked from line to line to get your speed.

I don't know-- my physics professor in high school always ranted and raved about how he got out of speeding tickets by throwing random variables that could affect the observed speed at the cop/judge. I'm sure a lot of it wasn't true, but this system relies only on the very simple equation V = D/T. T will be very far from exact given that it's usually measured via a stopwatch and doesn't take into account reaction time which becomes more and more crucial the faster the car is going.

If the speed limit is 65 and the infractor is clocked somehere in the 80's what difference does it make?

Correct. Though if the speed limit is 65 and the infractor is clocked at 71 in a state where there's a 5mph "grace period," the reaction time of the policeman will matter.
 
I got a ticket many years ago on the way to vegas, the airplane trcked my speed then called the CHP. As soon as I saw the cop get on the freeway behind me and not go by I knew I was toast.
 
There are tons of those signs here, and they are actively enforced by our three police helicopters. I've never really thought about a plane, I always think chopper.

I've been pulled over once from a chopper radar. I did not get a ticket.

However setting the cruise on say 65 and the grade drops suddenly and you go to 71 for an instant before it falls back to 65, do you slam on the brakes?
