Speech Impediments

So, I have a slight lisp and I tend to mumble. This usually happens when I'm talking casually, but if I pay attention I can get around it. I'm assuming that the mumbling thing is a muscle-memory issue that can be corrected by conditioning, but I had a question about the lisp.

My teeth are pretty messed up, and I need to get at least one tooth removed (it's growing in the same spot as another tooth, causing it to jut out), but I was wondering whether I should get braces as well. The main consideration would be, could straightening my teeth remove the lisp or help to alleviate it?

It could, but it's impossible for anyone online to say. A dentist, and speech therapist are what you need. Someone has to look at your mouth, and see exactly what's causing the lisp. If it wasn't too bad, I wouldn't worry about it. a lot of people have speech quirks, and it adds to the overall personality.

Speech therapy works great. My lisp was horrible in the 5th grade but now it is still noticeable but not that bad....

I do hate it when people call my lispy or Sir Lisp a lot.

Everyone here is correct, you need to go to an SLP and they will do an orofacial exam, which just means they are going to make sure everything is ship shape inside your mouth. If your teeth are messed up enough to create an airflow issue to cause a lisp, it will be identified here.
