Idea is to start off speech by reading headlines or things famous people have said to prove the point that humans judge by what they think the answer is, not by the truth.

For example: Bill gates saying something like "we must stop the virus at all costs". Most folks would immendiately think of swine flu, etc...

Another example... Right wing talks show host expounds about higher taxes, etc...

Any ideas?

I guess I made this too difficult :)

Just looking for ideas to start off a speech that demonstrates how we often pre-judge before verifying the facts... Thought it would be good to start of with some statements by famous folks and then engage the audience to guess who said them, only to be shown they'd guessed based on their bias...

Any ideas?

I wouldn't necessarily say you made it too difficult, you just explained it poorly and used a useless example.
What particular biases are you trying to elicit? Racial? Socio-economic? Religious?

What idiot would think Bill Gates talking about a virus means swine flu?

The minute i hear the name Bill Gates, i think computers... and i'm sure most of the population as well.

Its not like Bill Gates is an authority on human immune systems or anything.

Yes, poorly explained... Any of those you mention and more...

I say to audience: "The virus is spreading out of control"... Then pause and say: Bill Gates speaking about virus XYZ, etc...

I say to audience: "High taxes are necessary for a successful government" Then pause and say: "Ronald Reagan in his first innaugural address" etc...

That's the concept anyway... Looking for ideas...

Yes, that's the idea...

Can go beyond politics as well... Into science, philosophy, etc...
