Most likely it'll be $199 (similar to iPhone 6 16gb pricing of $649 retail, 199 contract)

I don't think any carriers allow you to pay ETF and remain on the same carrier. Ask before attempting to do this

I have to think that 49.99 it's a placeholder, if they really were selling them for that price on contact that would be a steal. Most likely it will be 199.

And just in case it really is 50 bucks, does anyone know if I can pay the etf fee at the same time I buy the phone, or do I have to wait a couple of hours and go back?

If it was $50, then I would do the same. $50 phone + $325 ETF = $400 Nexus.
I doubt it will be that price though. I'd think $200-300.

It would certainly curb all the belly aching about the off contact price lol.

Even at $199 + $325 ETF, you are getting a phone for $524 which is cheaper than the $649 google is selling it direct for.

Fingers crossed it is $49. I'll gladly grab one from AT&T and pay the ETF.

If you're planning on joining a carrier just to cut ties and pay ETF, remember there are other fees that may come up as well. Activation fees, taxes, etc.

It makes me wonder if they will actually be $299 especially if the phones are carrier unlocked as expected.

True. Going to get hit with taxes whether you buy direct from google or from the carrier. Activation fee is what, $35 or something? If the ETF is $325 it makes financial sense to just pay it. If the ETF is higher and/or the subsidized price of the phone exceeds $199, then it won't make sense.

I don't see them selling it for more than $199 subsidized. That's the price of the iphone, so they won't go higher than that.

What matters is not the actual price, but the promotion price.

The Note 4's "price" is $299 on contract, but thanks to Best Buy I got it for like $40 on launch day.

I don't think Google is going to give as sweet of a promotion deal as Samsung/Best Buy is doing.

I know with AT&T I save $25/month per line by being off contract. That is $600 over the course of a two-year contract. Unless the phone is under $50 on contract, then AT&T Next is the best deal.

I bought a phone for full price (they had a glitch and offered it for 50% off).
I paid $320 + tax $20. Not sure how tax was calculated as sales tax here is 9%?
I did not pay any activation fees, first month of service, etc.
I picked my order up and went home and canceled the service.

If you're buying it for full price then of course all those fees don't apply, it's for the people who are thinking of buying @ the subsidized price.
