Speculation on Windows 9

I think it will be eerily similar to 8.1 just like 7 was to Vista. I think it will get the same praise that 7 got over Vista as well even though they are basically the same OS.

As far as new features go I think they will be few and far between. 9 will most likely use the same kernel that 8/8.1 does just with a more refined UI.

I think bbhaag is correct. Windows 8 in itself is a good OS, but it is ruined by a very poorly designed UI. Windows 9 will probably iron out a lot of those - just like 7 did with Vista's

Same thing as 8, although with some visual tweaks, more technical tweaks though. Not generally too excited, since throwing off this design after the first time is pretty much a stupid idea.

Well I haven't used windows in 10 years, but I think they would improve the UI, make it more lightweight, and maybe more customization.

Pretty much. The Vista -> Win7 parallel is very apt.

However, it would be nice to get multiple desktops! It would be really nice to have one virtual desktop for editing photos, one for work, one for play, etc... Hopefully the implementation is going to be good.

So far all the rumors I have heard say:
New Start Menu
Windowed Metro Apps
Virtual Desktops
Removing Charms Bar

In addition to the general improvements that normally come with an operating system release.

It might be some revamps and alterations of what Windows 8 is, they might make it optional to have the scrolling home screen and add some more value to their windows app marketplace.

I wonder, after 6 months of hefty updates, wouldn't the preview in April would be pretty close to RTM?

That would be pretty awesome, if at the end, they basically said, "Thanks for using the preview. Oh, and you already have the RTM now."

There is an application by Microsoft called "Desktops" that gives you 4 desktops to work with. It's part of the sysinternals suite and you can download it individually.

As we seem to be moving backwards.

They are moving forwards. You should still be able to choose a more 8.1 style UI on a destop PC even though it will supposedly default to something closer to Win 7.

If you are upgraded a laptop with a touchscreen rumor has it Windows 9 will start you off with a touch oriented UI which you can later if you choose make behave more like Windows 7

They're moving forward by letting the user choose what UI style they want while also incrementally improving the underpinnings of the OS. That's much better than saying you will learn only one way to use the OS.

....

I think windows 9 will be a renamed windows 8 lol 😉 i don't need DX12 or DX11 really don't need to upgrade. my windows 7 computer for DX11 and windows xp with very good anti virus will keep me online until 2020.

I think they are going to make you buy it if you want DX12.

You have to buy a DX12 video card anyway and DX12 game so why should Microsoft start making their operating systems free?...If you want free go Linux.

I only use Windows for gaming,Linux covers all my other needs.

Yes I don't mind paying for Win9,as a gamer we always have to pay for our hardware and software upgrades.
