Not really. If the truck hit black ice or a rut, there would be nothing he could do.

I drive in that crap every day. If I catch ice I can recovery pretty easily. A truck weighing 60,000 pounds can't say the same thing. Even if he was going ~45mph, the momentum he has could easily do that kind of damage. Judging by the looks of those roads, 45 would be a very conservative speed.

Black ice isn't some magical condition that occurs. Those road were black, they were icey/slushy. Conditions were ripe for ice, very ripe.

Given his ability to control his vehicle he didn't hit ice, but IMHO they were traveling too fast. The slush between the lanes was enough to say "slow down, pay attention". Excellent driving and also excellent driving by the car in front that said "I'm coming into your lane and hitting you in the rear to save my life."

Don't get too confident. If you encounter ice, there isn't much you can do, only hope the ice isn't a few thousand meters long. I hope I have the peripiheral vision and automatic skills this guy did - great driving.

Youtube vid has comments from the driver.

I'm the driver in this video 😉 It's a VW Tiguan. The video is deceiving because I really saw the truck start to slide side-to-side ahead of time, at which time I braked pretty hard, allowing the truck to pass by me so I could get in behind it. Yes I felt as if I had good reflexes in this situation, but it was also advance anticipation.

I'm surprised the truck was able to go through the median, I thought those were solid. Guess a truck at that speed is too much energy.

A crack appears on the driver's window. Either debris hit it or he had a collision with another vehicle when moving over.

A bit of the meridian hit his car after the truck caused it to go flying... remember what goes up must come down.

What hit him exactly isn't visible, but I did say "debris" to cover that possibility. It's entirely possible that he was rear-ended and you even see a jerk just as it appears.

Is it common for people to have dashboard cams over there?

The article made it sound like the radio station gave out a handful of such cams to specific people so they could monitor daily traffic. It has the added benefit of providing evidence and possibly good lulz to the rest of the world.

Yeah, I'm not complaining, thats a pretty awesome video, especially as the guy avoided any major trouble.

Cool coincidence that the guy had a dash cam set up.

Maybe not. If theres a couple hundred guys in town with those things and they were only given out to folks who routinely take the highway to work, then its more than a coincidence. The odds are actually pretty good someone will tape any accident that happens.

Not from that perspective.
