Specs on a Dishnetwork hard drive ?

Ok, so I have the 501-PVR receiver and want more space on my hard drive for movies.

So I thought a 160gb 5400rpm drive would do nicely.... 🙂

But I don't know if I need a 7200RPM drive for this or not....What is in the receiver stock ? (Still have warranty issues)

EDIT: Oh, and how is it formatted I wonder ? (Fat32 ?)

Anyone care to comment ?

goto dbs forums and dig around the pvr information forum for info on this subject. 5400rpm drives are preferred in pvrs due to heat and sometimes noise issues. i have a dishplayer and have upgraded the drive in it, but i think the process is different for the 501s.

you're gonna love having a pvr - i don't know if i'll ever be able to watch tv w/o one now...

Hankster I looked around some on the DBS forum and really haven't found anything conclusive yet...I'll keep looking.

Do you recall how your drive was formatted in the one you upgraded ?

5400rpm drives are preferred in pvrs due to heat and sometimes noise issues.

I figured this was the case, this is why I was thinking about the 160GB 5400 RPM drive.

Do you recall if the stock drive was 5400RPM ?

I doubt you could put a 160 gig drive in there, because they rely on ata133, and I'm sure in a dishnetwork tivo type recorder, they aren't ata133...

Just thought I'd give you something to think about lol...

the original drive in my dishplayer was a seagate 8G 5400rpm. i currently have a WD 30G (no formatting required - but the 501s are running a different OS so that may not apply with them). i have a 60G maxtor ready to go when i get a chance to swap it in...
