Specifying an IP in Win2K

I was searching and couldn't find an answer that I wanted. I was reading in the other forum that if you had assigned/specified an IP address that you can boot up faster with Win2K and I guess other OS's too. How do I go about specifying an IP address?

Start|settings|Network and Dial-up connections|New connection

Fill in the blanks with the correct information. Don't forget to also address: Default Gateway, DNS, and optionally WINS. Make sure you put in the correct subnet mask information, not all services are 255.255.255.0.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info. Actually...to me it's more than just that. I'm currently running 2 ethernet cards, one to my cable modem and one to my other computer. I specify the IP address in my ethernet card to the cable modem right? Also, what do I use as the DNS entries or where do I find the DNS and WINS entries to put in? Sorry about all the question, but I'm new to this stuff. Thanks!

The ethernet card to you cable modem should be set up to obtain all your TCP/IP info automatically, i.e. via DHCP. You shouldnt specify anything.

The NIC that connects to the other PC, you can specify a private addy. No need to use DNS in a two box workgroup, just make a host entry

DNS entries should be supplied by your ISP. sometimes they are referred to as 1st nameserver, 2nd nameserver, etc...
