specific i7 build

im building a new i7 gaming rig and the only item i cant decide on is my mobo. ive done quite a bit of looking around, and from what ive read so far, it seems like asus, gigabyte, evga, and even the new foxconn bloodrage all have their followings and none seem to really stand out from the rest. in fact, it seems like the only threads that really get more than just loyal asus (or filling in the brand) preachers are the ones that are responding to specific systems and needs. so this is my attempt to get some help with mine and what might work the best for me.

as a starting point, here's what i have so far (note that the evga mobo is just a place holder):

first off, yes i realize that i could get a better gaming pc right now by going with a C2Duo and using the extra cash on more GPU power, so please no posts suggesting that.

basically, what i want from this rig is to have plenty of capability now, but in the future be able to add on and overclock easily, and have a high end pc for a few years to come, at least until the sandy bridge comes out.

it shoudl be noted that while i do enjoy FPS' casually (ie CoD, cysis), the bulk of my gaming is MMO type stuff (no WOW flamers either plz, never played that never will :)). the reason i point out the online aspect, is that i was almost sold on the EVGA, but then saw a roundup of the four major original x58's on this site i think, and the EVGA scored terribly compared to the others in NIC performance.

this is my first build, so im looking forward to working out the usual problems a builder faces as a learning experience, but the last thing i want is to be in way over my head and be at a total loss.

what i think is most important is probably:

1. quality/performance (geared toward an online gamer)
2. overclocking/expansion capability (threeway sli and an extra .05% OC ability over the competition are not all that important however)
3. support (i know; evga on this one)

feedback would be greatly appreciated. whatcha guys think?

oh it shoudl also be noted that i will be purchasing this in a few weeks, so waiting for the new EVGA classified to be released is an option. i would however like to keep the cost of the mobo between 300-400 unless an extra few bucks sets this system apart from the pack.

I think you should go with the GIGABYTE UD5. It supports DDR3 2100+ 24GB, dolby home theater, tri-sli, room for three dual slot coolers, 10 SATA ports, and other features. The ASUS P6T Deluxe is locked at DDR3 2000+ 12GB and lacks the features listed.

go for the eVGA Classified. It looks like it's going to perform well. Tri-SLI plus dedicated PhysX card, Digital PWM, etc.

i really dont plan on running triSLI though. i figure by the time id be willing to upgrade to three 260's, id probably be better off just buying whatever the nextgen gpu is. not saying that im ruling out the Classified, in fact it looks pretty amazing, im just curious what exactly ill be getting for the extra money. im guessing that itll etail for 350-400. will someone who overclocks their system in the future, but never really run 3xgpus + physx have a need for such a beast?

so i just read that the new evga classified board is going to run around $600. im not sure how most of us can justify this price tag, i certainly can't. guess im back to either the asus, gigabyte, or original evga x58.

I have not used any of the x58 boards however i did run a DS3 gigabite LGA775 board that i had major issues with RMA'd took forever to get it back and customer service was not all that great. I then decided to move on to a EVGA 680i board so i could run SLI with my 8800's and had issues with the board and dealing with their customer service was a pleasure. EVGA customer service FTW! I would go EVGA if i was upgrading to an i7...however i have decided to go AMD this time and sadly EVGA doesn't offer any AMD chipsets that support the phenom 2.

got a Giga UD3 coming. Thought I'd give it a go, if not I'll get the Supermicro, which was the original 1st choice due to server drivers.
