"Speciesism"

Here's the sad result of denying God and completely losing your moral bearings:

"Peter Singer is the Princeton bioethicist who first broke into the public's consciousness more than thirty years ago with Animal Liberation, a book in which he claimed that granting human beings special privileges based on being human is "speciesist"—discrimination against animals.
Instead of society being human centric, he asserted that the lives and well-being of animals deserve "equal consideration" with those of humans. "

Singer’s writings consistently elevate the rights of animals above disabled or unborn human beings, including the advocacy of infanticide. He has openly indicated that the “old” ethical order his teachings are intended to supplant is one based on the Genesis teaching of mankind made in the image of God. Which of course he regards as untenable due to his evolutionary belief that all life emerged naturally from chemicals to its present state of order over millions of years.

This kook was a featured speaker at a recent world Atheism convention in Australia.

You're getting a bit carried away with the trolling threads. I'm 90% sure you're a RBM, and which one you are. 10% to go.

the thing is, hypothetically, if there came from outer space a species that was superior to us in every conceivable way and they treated us the way some of us are treating other earth species, I'm sure we would bitch and moan about not being treated as their equals.

Just have a little more respect for life, all lives.

Complete loss of moral bearings not found. They're definitely skewed, but I wouldn't say any more than a religious fundamentalist such as yourself.

Of course, your point is that he is an atheist and thus that's what atheism is or leads to, which just shows your incredibly poor logic, and puts you squarely on the level of Fred Phelps. Hell, at least his makes sense if you actually believe in his angry god, yours is just straight up idiotic.

I take it you're ignoring the parts in the bible where they say it is ok to not only have slaves, but to beat them? Even your gospel doesn't put all humans on equal ground, and let's some treat them as though they are animals. There seems to be a contradiction in there, but its obviously too complex for you to understand.

PhineasJWhoopee, please give it a rest already.

You are quickly becoming the new Meg.

Shut up, Meg.

They are children who are brainwashed, have sympathy for them instead of condemnation.

Having a weak mind isn't much of an excuse. If they're just standing out there because it seems like a fun thing to do, that's one thing. If they really believe that garbage, condemnation should be freely given.

In Phineas' twisted worldview, these idiots are good, moral, God-fearing Americans.

Not quite. To him, they're much better than atheists/agnostics, and probably Muslims and many other religions, but they're not "true Christians". Only the latter would accept gay kids in their youth group, visit Hmong festivals, randomly visit predominately black communities in the south, all to test his prejudices (and allegedly he doesn't have any, well, except for most scientists, atheists, and who knows what else, but those don't count against him).

they are children. Give me an example of a strong minded child who was completely impervious to his/her parents' influence and I'll shut up about this.

I pretty much had my mind made up about religious stuff when I was their age. I went to Catholic school up until 8th grade, and went to church 1+ times per week. I was just going through the motions....
