Special recognition to Alan Turing and all others at Bletchley Park

They don't get the recognition they deserve for such an incredible work. Without their skills, the outcome of the Second World War could 'ave been very different.

You are not a consistent troll...

Sorry about that. Fixed. Reps for catching it.

Oh, and I'm not a troll.

Also Lawrence Waterhouse.

I just googled it. Is that a good book? I've never read it before. Looks interesting.

I am a bit past 2/3 of the book and I am enjoying the stories as well as the author's writing style. My friend started reading it at the same time on my recommendation and he is done and enjoyed it as well. I will probably get Snow Crash eventually and read that.

New book in September as well (Anathem).

The Diamond Age is probably my favorite of his books (Cryptonomicon, a very close second). I couldn't finish the Baroque Cycle. Gave up halfway through The System of the World. Maybe one day, I'll try again.

Cryptonomicon is my favorite Stephenson book, and one of my favorite books by anyone.

You gave up halfway through System? You were almost done!

The first time I tried to read the Baroque Cycle (as they were released), I gave up probably a third of the way through The Confusion. I picked them up again a few years later and that time had no trouble getting through all three.

Almost done? You know how thick that book is?! 😉

I was disappointed in myself, but I had a stack of other books I wanted to read. I had found myself losing interest in the Confusion, but continued out of a want to complete the series. I reached a point where just couldn't go any further. I found the story and characters interesting, but it was just too many words on the page, on top of being an outrageously gargantuan undertaking to begin with. I think he really suffered a case of Stephen King-itis with that series.
